From c65f0d324d73a5cb8e72af557c0a9dcda08d8069 Mon Sep 17 00:00:00 2001 From: Ali Mohammad Date: Thu, 1 Oct 2026 09:26:52 +0300 Subject: [PATCH] LOU-Z1, LOU-Z2: robust MCP schema conversion and result handling LOU-Z1: jsonSchemaToZod now converts anyOf/oneOf (nullable pattern -> .nullable()), allOf, local $ref into $defs/definitions (a recursive ref falls back to z.any() for the inner occurrence), type arrays, mixed enums, const, additionalProperties, default and the constraints zod can express (an invalid regex pattern is skipped). Unknown or empty schemas become z.any() and the converter never throws on schema content; objects keep extra properties unless additionalProperties is false. loadMcpTools skips a tool whose schema still fails, warns through an optional Logger and reports it via an onSkip callback, so one bad tool no longer fails the whole server. The old tests that asserted a throw for $ref, type 'null' were changed to assert the new behaviour. LOU-Z2: MCP results with isError throw McpToolError so the model sees { error, toolName, message } through the normal tool-error path. Text parts are joined, structuredContent is preferred, and image/audio/ resource/resource_link parts are kept in a typed JSON-serializable form. This is progressive disclosure: instead of -pasting every playbook into the system prompt, you list skills by name and -one-line description, and the model pulls in the full text on demand. - -How it works when an agent has skills: - -1. The system prompt gets a compact **Available skills** block: one line per - skill (`- name: description`) plus one sentence telling the model to call - `load_skill` before doing a task a skill covers. -2. A `load_skill` tool (input `{ name }`) is registered automatically. It - returns the skill's full content as the tool result. -3. Skill bodies are **not** in the prompt until loaded. An agent with twenty - long skills pays roughly one line per skill on every request, and the body - cost only on the runs that use it. - -An unknown name is a tool error that lists the valid skill names, so the model -can correct itself. - -## Skills in code - -```ts -import { createAgent, defineSkill } from '@loushy/build-ai-agent'; - -const agent = createAgent({ - prompt: 'You are a release engineer.', - provider, - skills: [ - defineSkill({ - name: 'changelog', - description: 'How to write a changelog entry', - content: '# Changelog entries\n\nUse the imperative mood and link the PR.', - }), - ], -}); -``` - -`defineSkill({ name, description, content })` validates its input. `name` must -match `^[a-z0-9][a-z0-9-_]{0,63}$`; `description` and `content` must be -non-empty.
