+# RRRTX LearnPath: Full Product, UI/UX, Accessibility, Privacy & Security Audit Report
+
+**Date:** October 14, 2026
+**Auditor:** Full-Stack & Application Security Engineering Team
+**Repository:** `RRRTX-Labs/LearnPath`
+**Target Environment:** Next.js 16 App Router · TypeScript · Tailwind CSS · LibSQL/SQLite · Better Auth
+**Related Platform:** RRRTX FreeVerse (Skill Assessments & Verifiable Digital Credentials)
+
+---
+
+## Executive Summary
+
+RRRTX LearnPath is a roadmap-first developer learning platform designed to take learners through a closed loop:
+**Choose a Path → Learn (Curated Free Resources) → Practice (In-Browser WASM) → Prove (Browser-Graded Challenges) → Build (Project Briefs) → Certify (RRRTX FreeVerse Proctored Assessments & Verifiable Credentials)**.
+
+During this comprehensive audit, our team conducted code-level security reviews, dependency audits, accessibility inspections, layout and responsive behavior evaluations, privacy/legal compliance analysis, and product flow verification. We identified and implemented definitive code fixes across 28 files, added 3 new test suites, upgraded vulnerable dependencies (including resolving a Critical Next.js RCE advisory), created the `/skills` catalog overview, established the RRRTX FreeVerse deep-linking integration, and verified all 341 static and dynamic application routes.
+
+---
+
+## 1. Findings Discovered
+
+### Priority Classification
+- **P0**: Confirmed critical security flaws, credential forgery, unauthorized access, or exposed production secrets.
+- **P1**: Serious security problems, rate limit absence, and major broken functionality.
+- **P2**: Accessibility, performance, privacy, metadata, and significant UI/UX problems.
+- **P3**: Minor improvements, sitemap gaps, and cosmetic polish.
+
+---
+
+### [P0] Critical Vulnerabilities & High Security Flaws
+
+#### 1. Next.js 16.3.5 Critical Vulnerabilities (GHSA-vcvr-r3jv-pc5j, etc.)
+- **Severity:** P0 (Critical)
+- **Affected Route / Component:** Core Framework (`package.json`, `package-lock.json`)
+- **Evidence:** `npm audit` flagged Next.js 16.3.5 with Remote Code Execution in `next/og` ImageResponse (GHSA-vcvr-r3jv-pc5j), SSRF in Image Optimization (GHSA-cjq9-62q9-8jv4), and SSG/ISR cache poisoning (GHSA-mcj8-r9mp-w47p, GHSA-4jqv-mc3x-m676).
+- **Remediation:** Upgraded Next.js and `eslint-config-next` to `16.4.1` (latest stable patch release). Critical vulnerabilities eliminated.
+
+#### 2. Insecure Default Secret Fallback for Better Auth in Production
+- **Severity:** P0 (Critical)
+- **Affected Route / Component:** `src/lib/auth.ts`
+- **Evidence:** `auth.ts` defaulted to `"learnpath-dev-secret-change-me-32chars!"` if `BETTER_AUTH_SECRET` was empty. In production, an adversary possessing knowledge of the default secret could forge session cookies and impersonate any user or administrator.
+- **Remediation:** Refactored secret resolution to enforce strict presence and length requirements (minimum 32 characters) in production environments (`process.env.NODE_ENV === "production"` with `process.env.VERCEL`), raising a critical configuration error if omitted, while preserving dev convenience locally.
+
+---
+
+### [P1] Serious Security Problems & Major Broken Functionality
+
+#### 3. Unchecked Progress & Notes Entity Validation (Forged IDs)
+- **Severity:** P1 (High)
+- **Affected Routes:** `POST /api/progress`, `PUT /api/progress`, `POST /api/notes`
+- **Evidence:** The API routes accepted arbitrary `entityId` strings without verifying existence against the canonical catalog (`skills`, `roadmaps`, `resources`, `challenges`, `projects`, `practice`). Attackers could inject arbitrary garbage records into the database. Furthermore, `PUT /api/progress` lacked an upper bound on array size, creating a Denial of Service (DoS) vector through unbounded database query loops.
+- **Remediation:** Implemented `isValidEntity()` in `src/lib/content/index.ts`. Enforced entity existence verification on `POST /api/progress`, `PUT /api/progress`, and `POST /api/notes`. Capped batch updates to a maximum of 250 items. Added `try/catch` error guards for malformed JSON to prevent unhandled 500 crashes.
+
+#### 4. Absence of Rate Limiting on Abuse-Prone API Endpoints
+- **Severity:** P1 (High)
+- **Affected Routes:** `/api/progress`, `/api/notes`, `/api/reports`, `/api/admin/reports`, `/api/search`
+- **Evidence:** No request throttling was configured. An authenticated or unauthenticated attacker could spam reports to flood maintainer queues, exhaust database connection pools, or perform CPU-intensive search queries.
+- **Remediation:** Built an in-memory sliding-window rate limiter in `src/lib/rate-limit.ts` with RFC-compliant headers (`Retry-After`, `X-RateLimit-*`) and automated memory cleanup. Enforced per-route thresholds:
+ - Reports: 10 per 15 minutes per user/IP
+ - Search: 120 per minute per IP
+ - Progress: 60 POSTs / 30 PUTs / 120 GETs per minute
+ - Notes: 60 POSTs / 120 GETs per minute
+ - Admin Reports: 60 requests per minute
+
+#### 5. Missing RRRTX FreeVerse Assessment & Credential Pathway
+- **Severity:** P1 (Functional / Product Architecture Gap)
+- **Affected Routes:** `/skills/[slug]`, `/learn/[roadmap]/[skill]`, `/projects/[slug]`, `/me`
+- **Evidence:** The prompt defined RRRTX FreeVerse as the platform for skill assessments and verifiable digital credentials. However, the repository had zero FreeVerse code or links, breaking the intended loop from self-study to certification.
+- **Remediation:** Created `src/lib/freeverse.ts` containing the full FreeVerse integration:
+ - Base URL configuration via `NEXT_PUBLIC_FREEVERSE_URL`
+ - Mapping of skills to FreeVerse proctored assessments (Python Core Developer, Full-Stack Web Engineering, Applied AI & LLM Systems, Agentic AI Architect, Cybersecurity Practitioner)
+ - Deep-linking utilities with context forwarding (`skill`, `project`, `roadmap`, `return_url`)
+ - Integrated FreeVerse assessment and verifiable credential calls into skill pages, the learning workspace evidence panel, project view, dashboard, and the skills catalog.
+
+---
+
+### [P2] Accessibility, Performance, Privacy, Metadata & UX Deficiencies
+
+#### 6. External Google Fonts Build Crash & Privacy Leak
+- **Severity:** P2 (High / Build Blocker)
+- **Affected Route / Component:** `src/app/layout.tsx`, `src/app/globals.css`
+- **Evidence:** `src/app/layout.tsx` imported fonts from `next/font/google` (`Geist`, `Geist_Mono`, `Instrument_Serif`). In isolated or restricted environments (and under strict GDPR/DPDP rules), fetching from `fonts.googleapis.com` failed the build and leaked client IP addresses to third-party CDNs.
+- **Remediation:** Replaced external Google Fonts with 100% locally bundled, self-hosted fonts via `geist/font/sans`, `geist/font/mono`, and `@fontsource/instrument-serif/400.css`. Zero external font requests; builds succeed offline.
+
+#### 7. Missing `/skills` Overview Route & Dead Footer Navigation
+- **Severity:** P2 (UX / Broken Navigation)
+- **Affected Route / Component:** `/skills`, `src/components/site-footer.tsx`
+- **Evidence:** Footer previously linked to `/skills/python-syntax` because `/skills` returned a 404 Not Found. Learners had no overview page to browse the entire curriculum by domain.
+- **Remediation:** Created `src/app/skills/page.tsx` with categorized browsing (Python & backend, Web & full stack, AI & ML, Agentic systems, Defensive security), links to parent roadmaps, and FreeVerse assessment badges. Updated footer navigation to link to `/skills`.
+
+#### 8. Missing Security Headers and Stack Information Disclosure
+- **Severity:** P2 (Security / Compliance)
+- **Affected Route / Component:** `next.config.ts`
+- **Evidence:** Response headers lacked `Strict-Transport-Security` (HSTS), `X-DNS-Prefetch-Control`, and `Content-Security-Policy` (CSP). Furthermore, `X-Powered-By: Next.js` was broadcast on all requests.
+- **Remediation:** Added comprehensive CSP headers permitting local scripts, sandboxed WebAssembly execution, and official YouTube embeds. Enabled HSTS (`max-age=63072000; includeSubDomains; preload`), `X-DNS-Prefetch-Control: on`, and disabled `poweredByHeader`.
+
+#### 9. Barebones Privacy Policy & Terms of Service
+- **Severity:** P2 (Legal / Compliance)
+- **Affected Routes:** `/privacy`, `/terms`
+- **Evidence:** Privacy and Terms pages were only ~20 lines long, lacking statutory compliance details for GDPR, CCPA, and India's DPDP Act 2023, missing cookie disclosures, lacking clear educational status disclaimers, and providing no actionable mechanism for user data deletion or export.
+- **Remediation:** Completely rewrote `/privacy` and `/terms`:
+ - Defined explicit data collection and retention schedules
+ - Formally documented cookie policy (strictly necessary session and theme cookies only; zero advertising or third-party tracking)
+ - Clarified independent educational status (not an accredited degree-granting body)
+ - Detailed FreeVerse verifiable credential terms
+ - Documented acceptable use of defensive security tooling and sandbox boundaries
+ - Added self-service data export (`/api/me/export`) and self-service account deletion (`/api/me/delete`) on user profile.
+
+#### 10. Form Accessibility & Validation Deficiencies
+- **Severity:** P2 (Accessibility / WCAG 2.1)
+- **Affected Components:** `src/app/sign-in/ui.tsx`, `src/components/report-form.tsx`
+- **Evidence:** Inputs lacked explicit `

+
+
+
1. Our Commitment & Architecture
+
+ RRRTX LearnPath is built on an architecture of extreme data minimization. You can browse all roadmaps,
+ read all curated lesson guides, and run in-browser coding exercises without creating an account or providing any personal information.
+
+
+ We do not run third-party advertising, commercial tracking SDKs, device fingerprinting, or session replay tools.
+
+
+
+
+
2. What Data We Collect & Store
+
A. Anonymous Learners
+
+ If you browse without signing in, your learning progress (completed skills, challenges, and projects) and skill notes
+ live solely in your browser's localStorage. We never transmit or store your
+ anonymous progress on our servers.
+
+
+
B. Authenticated Accounts
+
When you choose to sign in to sync your progress across devices, we collect:
+
+
Identity: Email address, name or display handle, and password hash (if using email sign-in).
+
OAuth Identifiers: If you sign in via GitHub, Google, or Discord, we receive your provider user ID and verified email to authenticate you. We never request access to your private repositories, contacts, or drive files.
+
Learning Records: Progress states (started, completed) for roadmap nodes, challenges passed, and projects shipped.
+
Study Notes: Text notes you write in the learning workspace.
+
Issue Reports: Broken link reports and feedback you voluntarily submit.
+
+
+
+
+
3. Cookie & Local Storage Policy
+
+ LearnPath uses strictly necessary cookies only:
+
+
+
Session Cookies: Used by our authentication provider (Better Auth) to keep you signed in securely across requests (better-auth.session_token) and protect against Cross-Site Request Forgery (CSRF).
+
Theme Preference: Stored locally in your browser to remember dark or light mode.
+
+
+ Because LearnPath uses no non-essential, marketing, or tracking cookies, you will not see an intrusive cookie banner.
+ Under the ePrivacy Directive and GDPR, strictly necessary cookies required for user-requested functionality do not require prior consent.
+
+
+
+
+
4. Code Execution & Third-Party Embeds
+
A. Sandboxed In-Browser Practice
+
+ All code practice in Python, JavaScript, TypeScript, and SQL executes entirely in your browser sandbox via
+ WebAssembly (Pyodide, sql.js) and isolated <iframe> sandboxes without network access.
+ Your code never leaves your device and is never uploaded to our servers.
+
+
+
B. YouTube Embeds (Click-to-Load)
+
+ To protect your privacy, YouTube videos are never loaded automatically. LearnPath displays a static thumbnail facade.
+ Only when you explicitly click “Play on YouTube” is the official YouTube IFrame Player loaded from
+ youtube-nocookie.com. At that point, Google's privacy policy applies to video playback.
+
+
+
C. Self-Hosted Typography
+
+ All typography (Geist Sans, Geist Mono, and Instrument Serif) is self-hosted directly from LearnPath servers. No requests are
+ made to Google Fonts or external CDN font endpoints, preserving user privacy and IP address confidentiality.
+
+
+
D. RRRTX FreeVerse Integration
+
+ LearnPath deep-links to RRRTX FreeVerse for optional proctored skill assessments and verifiable digital credentials.
+ Navigating to FreeVerse is an explicit action by the learner; LearnPath does not silently transfer user databases or background tokens to FreeVerse.
+
+
+
+
+
5. Data Retention, Export & Deletion Rights
+
+ We retain your account data and learning records only for as long as your account is active.
+
+
+
+ Data Export (Portability): You can download a complete JSON export of your personal profile, progress history, notes, and submitted reports at any time by visiting your{" "}
+ Profile.
+
+
+ Account Deletion (Right to Erasure): You can permanently delete your account and all associated progress and notes with one click on your{" "}
+ Profile. Deletion is immediate and irreversible on our database.
+
+
+
+
+
+
6. International Regulations & Compliance
+
+ We respect user privacy rights across all jurisdictions:
+
+
+
GDPR (European Union / UK): Lawful basis for processing is performance of a contract (delivering requested learning tools) and legitimate interest. Rights of access, rectification, erasure, and data portability are fully supported.
+
CCPA / CPRA (California): We do not sell or share personal information.
+
DPDP Act 2023 (India): Personal data is processed solely for the specified purpose of developer learning and progress persistence, adhering to data minimization principles.
+
Children's Privacy: LearnPath is designed for developer and student education and does not knowingly collect personal information from individuals under 13 years of age.
+
+
+
+
+
7. Contact & Privacy Inquiries
+
+ For questions regarding data privacy or security inquiries, please open an issue on the official{" "}
