From e563ef710574c8d8678f9352816434780819ee47 Mon Sep 17 00:00:00 2001 From: Vasil Date: Sat, 24 Oct 2026 02:58:56 +0200 Subject: [PATCH 1/2] tokenmeter mcp: read-only MCP server for AI assistants stdio by default, streamable HTTP with a bearer token on --listen. usage_summary, top_spenders, cost_per_action, usage_by_meta and health, with exact USD and nano-USD, UTC windows and truncated results marked; a usage_report prompt. A token that can write events is refused, found by an empty batch that fails after the scope check. The bearer scheme is matched without case; the MCP token is checked before any call to the service. A token that can write exits 4. Ranking, sorting and totals are shared with the CLI, top_spenders keeps all rows with limit 0 and formats only those it returns, and the server takes its client as a parameter. --- cmd/tokenmeter/errors.go | 7 ++ cmd/tokenmeter/main.go | 3 - cmd/tokenmeter/mcp.go | 183 ++++++++++++++++++++---------------- cmd/tokenmeter/mcp_test.go | 58 ++++++++---- cmd/tokenmeter/usage_cmd.go | 85 +++++++++++------ 5 files changed, 203 insertions(+), 133 deletions(-) diff --git a/cmd/tokenmeter/errors.go b/cmd/tokenmeter/errors.go index 92dbd4a..3c9d65a 100644 --- a/cmd/tokenmeter/errors.go +++ b/cmd/tokenmeter/errors.go @@ -27,6 +27,9 @@ const exitCodesHelp = `Exit codes: 0 done, 1 failed, 2 bad usage, type usageError struct{ error } +// scopeError is a token without the scopes a command needs, or with more. +type scopeError struct{ error } + func exitCode(err error) int { if err == nil { return exitOK @@ -35,6 +38,10 @@ func exitCode(err error) int { if errors.As(err, &u) { return exitUsage } + var se scopeError + if errors.As(err, &se) { + return exitAuth + } var netErr net.Error if errors.As(err, &netErr) || errors.Is(err, context.DeadlineExceeded) { return exitRetry diff --git a/cmd/tokenmeter/main.go b/cmd/tokenmeter/main.go index 664ce5b..5d7579e 100644 --- a/cmd/tokenmeter/main.go +++ b/cmd/tokenmeter/main.go @@ -13,8 +13,6 @@ import ( "time" "github.com/spf13/cobra" - - "github.com/ai-process/light-tokenmeter/pkg/client" ) // version is set at release time with -ldflags "-X main.version=...". @@ -30,7 +28,6 @@ type app struct { stdout, stderr io.Writer t target timeout time.Duration - shared *client.Client // set while tokenmeter mcp serves } func run(args []string, stdin io.Reader, stdout, stderr io.Writer) int { diff --git a/cmd/tokenmeter/mcp.go b/cmd/tokenmeter/mcp.go index 5f8187a..a194cd4 100644 --- a/cmd/tokenmeter/mcp.go +++ b/cmd/tokenmeter/mcp.go @@ -1,12 +1,12 @@ package main import ( - "bytes" "context" "crypto/subtle" "encoding/json" "errors" "fmt" + "io" "net" "net/http" "os" @@ -45,13 +45,26 @@ Protocol: on stdin and stdout by default, or as streamable HTTP at http://HOST:PORT/mcp with --listen.
