In a game's settings you can set a slot number for using multiple saves or backup saves per game, but there isn't a system wide setting for slot number. I think it would be useful to have one, say if you are giving your cartridge or ds to a friend or if you want to play all your games over without having to do a lot of file management or having to set for each individual game.
