Feature Request: Virtual Clutch Mode for Improved Manual Transmission
#36
Hi!
First of all, thank you for creating SMT. In my opinion, it's one of the best SnowRunner mods for players who use a steering wheel and prefer a manual gearbox.
I have a suggestion that could make the manual transmission feel even more realistic.
At the moment, the clutch is only used as a button to prevent stalling (Require Clutch), but it doesn't actually affect the transmission.
Would it be possible to add an optional mode, such as "Virtual Clutch" or "Realistic Clutch", with the following behavior?
Pressing the clutch pedal automatically shifts the transmission into Neutral.
While the clutch is held down, the player selects the desired gear (the gear is only stored, not engaged).
Releasing the clutch pedal engages the selected gear.
Since SnowRunner doesn't simulate a real clutch, this would provide a much more realistic manual transmission experience for players using steering wheels, H-pattern shifters, and pedal sets (MOZA, Fanatec, Simagic, etc.).
From what I've seen, the project architecture already seems close to supporting this feature, since CLUTCH and REQUIRE CLUTCH are already implemented. Because of that, it feels like this could be a relatively small change with a big impact on immersion.
Thanks again for your great work!
