[Question] How to migrate from stepsy to motionmate #76

Hi, thx for trying out Stepsy! Well, there were many more changes and I think it would require some manual tweaks to make it motionmate-restorable. IMO you need to ask yourself: if this project gets abandoned, would you want to go back and use motionmate in its current state? While Stepsy has its flaws, I tried my best to fix most important problems and after few difficult moments I managed to make it stable and reliable enough, and the original app is cold for the past 3 years. So yeah, my answer is I don't have any guide as, with all the love I always express about MotionMate, I'm not looking back. Even if abandoned, Stepsy (like motionmate still does) should work for years, and your backups for both are easy to extract and even visualize with a help of any AI chatbot. I reckon I changed the way the step counting background service handles step data, preventing data loss on crash and other events, among others.. Just disable all possible battery optimizations to make sure it's always working in the background (I put my heart in making it as efficient as possible), set up recurring step backups and walk without stressing yourself too much. The biggest problem you may face now is how the app handles timezone changes, I've talked about it in one of the issues. There's a way to fix it, but it will require a bit of work and I decided to focus on my life now. However, if you frequently travel between different timezones, you're better to stay with Motionmate for now. Cheers! |

Hi hello:)
I've seen you've fixed some serious problems with the motionmate (like different timezones) and I'm thinking of moving to this app.
Since I'd like to have myself covered in case this gets abandoned, do you have any guide on how to transform the stepsy database back to a motionmate database? I see you do something fancy with the timezones in the csv. (I supposs though this may not apply if any breaking changes happen in the future.)
Thanks again for picking up the project, Ive been using motionmate for year:)
