Macinity Wi-Fi and LAN contract

English

Authorized scope: Network Overview, Wi-Fi Inspector, Ethernet Inspector, Connection Diagnostics, Latency & Stability, Nearby Wi-Fi and Network Change Timeline. Native SwiftUI, existing MacinityTheme/L10n/MonitoringChart and existing live-rate sampler remain owners. A dedicated page owns explicit OS reads and bounded probes; it does not change network configuration, join networks, read passwords, control routers or install extensions.

  • Overview: getifaddrs, SystemConfiguration dynamic-store global IPv4/IPv6/DNS, CoreWLAN and fixed read-only ifconfig media output. Up to32 adapters/32 DNS addresses; omission and unknown fields are explicit. Byte counters reuse NET_RT_IFLIST2/if_data64. Packet/error/drop counters are cumulative if_data observations and may wrap. Adapter UP/RUNNING is an OS flag observation, not verified physical cable integrity. Ethernet media includes negotiated speed/duplex when exposed by the driver. No claim of USB-adapter or physical Ethernet verification without hardware.

  • Wi-Fi: current SSID/BSSID where authorized, RSSI/noise/SNR, channel/band/width/transmit link rate. Zero/unavailable radio values are missing. Link rate is not Internet throughput. SSID/BSSID may be redacted; Location permission is requested only by the explicit button. Local Network permission may be required for probes. Permission explanations are packaged in EN/VI/JA/ZH. Location access is not silently granted.

  • Connection check: user-entered single hostname/IP, no URL/port/credentials/options. Optional gateway ICMP3 only from an observation no older than60sec; system DNS resolution8sec (skipped for numeric IPs); TCP443 connect8sec with no application payload. Stages preserve failures and continue independently; about27sec maximum helper budget plus scheduling/cleanup. Cached DNS and blocked ICMP are disclosed. No HTTP/TLS/captive-portal or bandwidth-test claim. Dual-stack destination selection is controlled by the OS/helpers; results are not forcibly bound to a selected adapter.

  • Stability:20 ICMP probes at1sec intervals, owned helper deadline28sec. Summary-derived loss; received-only mean; mean absolute adjacent-successful differences for jitter. Missing sequences break charts; duplicate replies are not additional samples. Chart x-axis represents probe sequence spacing with approximate wall labels, not timestamped packet captures. CLI/helper exit failures remain visible. Cancel stops only the owned process, and suppresses publication. Previous results keep their timestamps.

  • Nearby scan: explicit CoreWLAN scan, sorted RSSI, max128 networks, search/clear, same-channel counts separated by band. Relative RSSI bars are observations; counts are not interference, airtime use or exhaustive spectrum coverage. macOS owns scan duration; cancellation waits for its return and suppresses results. The scan may not provide identities without permission. No shell airport dependency. Scans never run automatically or overlap another page operation.

  • Timeline: opt-in session memory; max200 status events plus200 path events with omitted count. NWPathMonitor owns visible-page path callbacks, not polling. IP/gateway/global-DNS/known Wi-Fi identities compare explicit successful refreshes within10min. Initial/truncated/failed/long-gap reads reset the baseline; missing identities/new or disappearing adapters do not establish change events. Route leave cancels probes/path monitor and resets comparison coverage. Timestamps are observation times, not exact disconnection times. No endpoint/identity history is persisted.

  • Native controls: Picker/Button/TextField/Toggle; one pending operation per page, visible error/cancellation, natural page scrolling, immediate locale updates. New networking scope supersedes earlier blanket no-probe wording only for these explicit user-triggered measurements. Previous health/sensor evidence does not validate this candidate. Full VoiceOver, professional Japanese copy review and physical Intel/macOS 13/Ethernet remain unverified. Macinity 3.1.0 deliberately uses the authorized ad-hoc, unnotarized channel.
