About libxml2

I've updated the libxml2 template which requires a soname bump for a lot of packages that I couldn't possibly build locally.
libxml2-2.15.1 compiles fine locally (x86_64-glibc).

Doesn't the new version have breaking changes? arch, gentoo both provide 2.15.x alongside 2.13.9, while a lot of distros are on 2.14. Probably requires checking which packages depend on removed functionality
From 2.15 changelog:

The built-in HTTP client and support for LZMA compression were removed.
parser option XML_PARSE_UNZIP is now required to read compressed data.

Seems like updating it would be a huge undertaking, xrevshlib shows over 300 packages

I've added a diff to the OP. The liblzma-devel dep has been dropped and upstream doesn't provide a meson build option for ftp. Python bindings will probably be removed in the next release (2.16).

Maintaining two versions may be the best approach, but yeah, personally that's all I've got to offer so far.

Side-note on libxml2, are you able to run checks on the version currently in repos?
I tried adding -fPIC to CFLAGS, since libxml2 is required by mariadb updated versions, and now ./testapi stage just hangs, both on 2.13.8 and 2.13.9
Edit: I'm lost, sometimes it works, sometimes doesn't. Mostly doesn't..
It does work, just sleeps the process and takes a long time.
