Bitmask is a product engineering consultancy. We design electronics, firmware, and software for connected products.
Named after the low-level software operation that extracts value from data. Bitmask was founded in Glasgow, Scotland in 2018, initially offering freelance embedded software development. Since then, we have grown to cover the many aspects of electronics product development, specialising in electronics design, connected software systems, and custom Internet of Things solutions.
Designing and building a connected product is a complex task spanning many engineering disciplines. Our engineers, each an expert in their own domain, cover the whole product stack. Alongside client work, we develop our own hardware, built to the same standard our clients expect, which keeps our engineering principles grounded in practice.

The trade-off triangle is Range ↔ Bandwidth ↔ Power. Pull on one and you push on the other two. We have practical experience in nearly every wireless technology, and we use it to pick the one that actually suits your application. |
Battery life is usually the second requirement after connectivity, and without it a product idea can fall apart. It takes planning from day one: components, sample and telemetry rates, data encoding, security, chemistry, and of course cost. |
Processors keep getting cheaper, faster, and more efficient, and many now carry an NPU. We run small trained models on constrained, battery-powered devices for sensor fusion and on-device classification, with no cloud round trip. |
