Personal terminal and CLI baseline for my machines.

The current default is intentionally small:

• common/: configuration shared by macOS and Linux.
• macos/: macOS-specific install script, Homebrew bundle and Podman wrapper.
• linux/: Linux bootstrap for a similar terminal experience.
• legacy/: old Ubuntu-era files kept for reference, not used by default.
• docs/: notes and checks.

There is no vps/ profile for now. VPS usage is mostly SSH and service work, so this repo only includes the local/desktop terminal baseline unless a VPS profile becomes useful later.

macOS

./setup.sh macos

This links:

• ~/.zshrc -> common/zshrc
• ~/.zprofile -> macos/zprofile
• ~/.gitconfig -> common/gitconfig

It also installs the Homebrew packages/casks in macos/Brewfile and installs the Podman compatibility wrapper so these commands use Podman:

• docker
• docker-compose
• podman

The terminal app must use a Nerd Font for icons to render correctly. Recommended font:

• MesloLGS Nerd Font Mono

Linux

./setup.sh linux

This links the shared zsh/git config and installs the closest package-manager baseline it can. Some tools, especially eza, zoxide and starship, may need manual installation depending on the distro/version.

Also configure the Linux terminal app with a Nerd Font, ideally MesloLGS Nerd Font Mono, to match the macOS terminal.

Preferences encoded here

• zsh as the shell.
• Podman over Docker for local container work.
• pnpm over npm; interactive zsh maps npm to pnpm and npx to pnpm dlx.
• Modern CLI tools when available: Starship, Atuin, eza, bat, fd, zoxide, direnv and fzf.
