Summary

The Validate repository step, and Test release tools, which runs the validator, have failed on every main run since fcd1b3e. The last green run was 8cce4f4. This PR fixes three causes:

  • Negated sentence read as a claim. In docs/research/2026-09-25-handoff-debt.md, "not evidence that quiet diagnostics save tokens" matched the public-claim pattern. It now reads "lower token use"; the meaning is unchanged.
  • Local paths in recorded measurement files. 13 files under docs/measurements/data and docs/research/data contain /Users/… paths inside recorded commands. Twelve are pinned by SHA-256 from other tracked results, candidates, or expectations. Reducers and gate fixtures recheck them, and the v4 candidate is read by its verifier. Rewriting them would break that chain.
    • They are listed in FROZEN_LOCAL_PATH_EVIDENCE with their current digests.
    • The exemption skips only the local-path check, and only while a file's bytes match its digest.
    • Credential and private-key checks still apply.
    • The paths remain in git history either way.
  • Worktree .git file. In a linked worktree, .git is a file containing the main checkout's absolute path. The validator no longer scans it.

Verification

  • python3 scripts/validate_repository.py: passes. On clean main it reports 14 errors.
  • python3 -m unittest scripts.test_release_tools: 29 OK. The 7 tests that fail on main now pass, and two new tests cover the exemption:
    • a frozen file passes byte-for-byte and fails after a one-byte change;
    • a worktree .git file is ignored.
  • scripts/build_release.sh builds and inspects the portable archive.

This also unblocks CI for #3.

Validation has failed on main since fcd1b3e. A negated sentence in the
handoff-debt review matched the public-claim pattern, and thirteen recorded
measurement files contain local paths. Those files are pinned by SHA-256 from
other results and rechecked by reducers, so rewriting them would break the
evidence chain. They are exempt from the local-path check only while their
bytes match the recorded digest; credential and private-key checks still apply.

The validator also skips a linked worktree's `.git` file, which names the main
checkout by absolute path.

Windows checkouts convert line endings, so the recorded SHA-256 never matched
there and every Windows validation job still failed.
