Summary

Records the spec 002 live-server findings (observed on kubelab, 2026-10-11) and closes T019, T021, T127, T128, T129, T133 in tasks.md.

  • contracts/nuclear-option-remote-command.md: second live capture table (status and body for the six commands; set-next-mission marker resolved to empty 2000; unknown command 4004).
  • tasks.md: six tasks marked [X] with dated notes. T019 and T127 are closed partially: no game client was available, so the per-entry get-player-list shape, chat with a player, and the Steam display-name comparison remain UNVERIFIED, with the reason stated in the docs.
  • T029, T117, T135 untouched.

The module findings are in GameplanePanel/module#50. The modules/ pointer bump is not in this PR yet; it follows once that PR merges.

Needs a decision (not changed here)

  1. The game image has no nc, so every exec probe fails and the pod never becomes Ready (GameServer stays Starting).
  2. ban_list.txt is never created by the server; bans on a fresh server are in-memory only and are not backed up.
  3. send-chat-message returned 2000 while the server logged a NullReferenceException (no players connected).

Test plan

  • Docs only; CI green

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Documentation
    • Updated command reference notes with observed responses and effects for chat messages, player moderation, ban-list changes, and mission selection. Unknown commands are documented as returning an error.
    • Clarified that player-entry details and some connected-player behavior remain unverified.
    • Recorded operational findings on log output, configuration checks, backup and restore behavior, and the ban-list file location, including a persistence gap when the file is missing.
    • Updated task tracking to reflect completed observations and tests, while noting work that remains unverified or was withdrawn.

Walkthrough

The specification records live observations for remote commands and updates related verification tasks. It notes unverified player-entry details and connected-player effects, documents mission-command responses, and records configuration, logging, and backup/restore findings.

Changes

Remote Command and Live Verification

Layer / File(s) Summary
Remote-command contract observations
specs/002-nuclear-option-ip-pool/contracts/nuclear-option-remote-command.md
Adds captured command results, including observed server-side errors and file effects. Clarifies that the player-list wrapper was reconfirmed but entry fields remain unverified. Records empty status-2000 responses for recognized and unrecognized mission names.
Live verification task status
specs/002-nuclear-option-ip-pool/tasks.md
Updates task records with partial command observations, stdout-only logging, configuration results, backup/restore findings, and the missing-file persistence gap. Records withdrawn or completed verification work.

Before / after behavior

  • observed — Modified behavior in specs/002-nuclear-option-ip-pool/contracts/nuclear-option-remote-command.md: Adds the 2026-10-11 capture results for eight commands and records their statuses, bodies, and relevant server logs. The observations include a send-chat-message server exception despite status 2000, an unconnected kick-player target being added to the kicked list, ban-list file changes, and 2000 responses for both valid-looking and nonexistent mission names. It also leaves connected-client effects and populated player-list entries unverified.
  • observed — Modified behavior in specs/002-nuclear-option-ip-pool/contracts/nuclear-option-remote-command.md: Updates the player-list note to say the capital-P Players wrapper was reconfirmed on 2026-10-11, while the per-entry schema remains unverified; removes the requirement for a real join test and states that the test was withdrawn under the FR-004 amendment.
  • observed — Modified behavior in specs/002-nuclear-option-ip-pool/contracts/nuclear-option-remote-command.md: Replaces the unverified response-body note for set-next-mission with the observed empty 2000 response. It records that the same response was returned for an unrecognized mission group and name, so the response does not establish that the requested mission exists.
  • observed — Modified behavior in specs/002-nuclear-option-ip-pool/tasks.md: T019 is marked closed with partial observations: responses for six commands were recorded, but the player-entry shape and chat with a player remain unverified. T021 now records stdout-only logs and no files on /data.

325-325: 🩺 Stability & Availability

The readiness documentation cannot be assessed because modules/nuclear-option/specs.md is absent from the checkout. T128 records only “no crash-loops,” while the referenced §12 content is unavailable.

**CRITICAL CONTRADICTION**: The contract previously assumed a single mission-name argument. Live observation on 2026-08-22 shows the server rejects a single-argument invocation with error status **4005**: `{"message":"Expected Arguments [string Group, string Name, float MaxTime]"}`. The signature is **three arguments** (group, name, duration), as now listed above. Any client implementation must provide all three.

**Response**: Status 2000, body: **UNVERIFIED — response body shape not specified upstream; confirm against a live server**.
**Response**: Status 2000, **body is empty** (VERIFIED 2026-10-11: `set-next-mission BuiltIn Escalation 3600` returned status 2000, bodylen 0). The same empty 2000 came back for a nonexistent group and name (`Bogus Nope 10`), so the server does not validate the mission against its mission list at command time. A rejected mission, if any, shows only in the server log; the response cannot confirm the mission exists.

🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win

Limit the conclusion to the observed response.

Both requests returned the same empty 2000 response. This does not establish that the server skips validation. The server could reject or ignore an unknown mission without exposing that result. State only that the response cannot confirm whether the requested mission exists.
