LevelUp is a local-first self-improvement app with its own offline replication engine. It turns a person's goals and available time into a small daily mission plan, then records the real work as XP, skill progress, streaks, journey nodes, and changes to a persistent companion called Milo. It also includes the original 28-chapter evidence-audited manual, focus tools, reviews, backups, and study features.

Milo demo: https://hustlenix.github.io/LevelUp/today/?milo=demo
The app now opens around five questions:
- Today: What should I do now?
- Journey: Where am I going?
- Coach: What should change when I get stuck?
- Progress: Am I actually improving?
- Profile: Who am I becoming?
The first-run flow asks for up to three areas to improve, an honest daily time budget, pace, and current consistency. It creates a three-mission starter day without requiring an account. Completing a mission records private proof, awards XP only for the real action, advances the relevant skill, updates the streak, and feeds Milo's existing event engine.
The older project is still inside the app rather than being thrown away.
The Level Up Manual contains 28 chapters split across Health, Wealth, Love, and Self. The manual also has quizzes, protocols, research notes, an evidence audit, quotes, a glossary, search, highlights, and progress tracking.
The existing goals, focus sessions, reviews, portfolio, experiments, roadmaps, backup system, and Study Mode remain available as deeper tools.
Milo sits across the app as a persistent local companion. Focus sessions, chapter activity, goals, milestones, and other Level Up events can change what Milo is doing and unlock parts of the room.
The core experience does not require an account or application server. Mission progress is stored as an event-sourced operation log rather than scattered counter updates. The Nexus engine de-duplicates retries, resolves concurrent offline changes deterministically, reconciles open tabs, creates compacted checkpoints, and can move a workspace between devices in an authenticated encrypted packet.
The Nexus Sync Lab makes that work inspectable. It shows the live replica and version vector, audits the hash chains, and includes a two-node sandbox where reviewers can partition replicas, write on both sides, reconnect them, and watch the state converge. See docs/NEXUS-PROTOCOL.md for the data model, merge algorithm, security boundary, and failure behavior.
These numbers were read from the generated data and release checks on the current main branch.
| Data | Current count |
|---|---|
| Chapters | 28 |
| Audited claims | 30 |
| Protocols | 13 |
| Glossary entries | 65 |
| Quotes | 46 |
| Chapter quizzes | 28 |

- Read and search all 28 chapters.
- Complete chapter quizzes and save reflections.
- Save highlights and bookmarks locally.
- Finish personalized daily missions sized to the time you actually have.
- Build global XP, seven independent skill levels, meaningful streaks, milestones, and achievements.
- Follow visible seven-node Journey paths without hiding useful content behind fake locks.
- Use a contextual local Coach with practical quick actions instead of an empty chatbot.
- Compare weekly consistency, time, skill balance, heatmaps, and personal records against your own past.
- Create goals, roadmaps, milestones, tasks, and focus sessions in the deeper workspace.
- Complete daily and weekly reviews.
- Track progress, XP, streaks, and badges.
- Use Study Mode with a personal plan, daily mission, XP, and optional local Ollama help.
- Export and restore local data from the Backup page.
- Inspect the real Nexus operation ledger, checkpoint it, and test offline convergence in the Sync Lab.
- Move progress between devices with PBKDF2-derived AES-GCM encrypted packets.
- Use Milo, the persistent companion linked to real activity inside the app.
- Run without a login for the core experience.
- Install/use the static site from GitHub Pages.
The versions below match the current package.json.
| Tool | Version |
|---|---|
| Next.js | 16.3.5 |
| React | 19.2.8 |
| TypeScript | 6.0.3 |
| Tailwind CSS | 4.3.3 |
| MiniSearch | 7.2.0 |

The production build is a Next.js static export. GitHub Pages serves the generated out directory with the /LevelUp base path.
Install:
- Node.js
- npm
- Git
git clone https://github.com/Hustlenix/LevelUp.git
cd LevelUpnpm installnpm run devThen open:
http://localhost:3000
npm run build
npm startThe pull-request workflow runs lint, tests, and a production build.
You can run the same checks locally:
npm run lint
npm test
npm run buildThe deployed site also has a Playwright release smoke test:
npx playwright install chromium
PLAYWRIGHT_BASE_URL=https://hustlenix.github.io/LevelUp node verify-release.mjsThe current smoke test checks every public route plus search, quiz persistence, practice records, the Goals → Today → Focus flow, mission XP, Nexus partition/convergence, encrypted packet export, backup/restore, the 13-plan protocol library, responsive layouts, and Milo's deterministic demo.
Most personal state is stored on the device in browser storage. Core LifeOS progress uses an append-only Nexus log, a synchronous local write-ahead copy, and an IndexedDB durability mirror. Open tabs reconcile through BroadcastChannel and storage events.
The app supports exporting and restoring that state from the Backup page.
Google Analytics is optional. It only runs when a NEXT_PUBLIC_GA_ID is supplied at build time. The analytics module only accepts a small whitelist of non-content event fields and does not send notes, reflections, highlight text, search text, Milo state, or other browser-storage content.
Pushes to main run the GitHub Pages workflow:
- install dependencies
- lint
- test
- build the data pipeline and static site
- deploy
outto GitHub Pages - run the live Playwright smoke test against the deployed site
The badges at the top of this README show the current workflow status directly from GitHub Actions.
