What does this change?

Rewrites the top of the README for search and first-visit conversion:

  • Headline and hero alt text now say "the free, open-source Opus Clip alternative", the phrase people search for (SupoClip ranks largely because its description is exactly that phrase).
  • Subtitle names TikTok/Reels/Shorts and states "no Docker, no watermark, no per-minute credits".
  • Download steps are three short lines; the ChatGPT/Codex beta, unsigned-macOS and pre-v0.10 caveats move into a collapsible "Setup notes" section (content unchanged).
  • Mentions OpenRouter in the comparison table, adds a paragraph comparing against other open-source clippers, and links the website's open-source comparison page.
  • A one-line star request under the badges.

Why?

Cutawan doesn't currently match the "open source Opus Clip alternative" search on GitHub or Google, and the first screen of the README was mostly caveats.

Release notes

None (README only; CI's release-notes check skips non-src/ changes).

How did you test it?

  • npm test (not needed, README only)
  • npm run typecheck
  • npm run lint
  • Checked the rendered Markdown structure and links

Anything to watch out for?

Repo description and topics also need updating, which can't be done from a PR. Suggested values are in the session summary.

Overview
README positioning and first-screen copy are reworked so the project leads with “free, open-source Opus Clip alternative” in the hero alt text and main headline, with clearer value props (TikTok/Reels/Shorts, no Docker/watermark/per-minute credits) and a short star CTA under the badges.

The Download and get started section is tightened to three bullets; ChatGPT/Codex, unsigned macOS, and pre-v0.10 wizard caveats move into a collapsible Setup notes block (same substance, less above the fold). The Opus Clip comparison now highlights OpenRouter, adds a paragraph contrasting other open-source clippers (Docker/scripts vs desktop installer) with a link to the site comparison page, and updates the models row accordingly.

Put the search phrase people actually use in the headline and hero alt
text, shorten the download steps, move setup caveats into a collapsible
section, mention OpenRouter, and link the website's open-source
comparison page.
