Intent

Repair the frozen AETHER v0 build on its existing stacked verification branch without changing application, shader, token, or visual behavior.

Base

This PR remains stacked on feat/aether-runnable-gallery-v0, because the runnable application is not yet on main.

Root causes repaired

  1. package-lock.json was absent, so the required npm ci gate could not run.
  2. package.json declared next lint, but ESLint and a deterministic Next configuration were absent.

Changes

  • committed a generated npm lockfile only after full verification succeeded
  • added pinned eslint@8.57.1 and eslint-config-next@14.2.31
  • added .eslintrc.json with next/core-web-vitals and next/typescript
  • upgraded .github/workflows/verify-aether-v0.yml to:
    • generate a lockfile only when absent
    • validate with frozen npm ci
    • run typecheck, lint, and production build
    • retain the declared test surface
    • create a deterministic .next archive and SHA-256 digest
    • retain a package-lock digest
    • commit only package-lock.json, and only after every automated gate passes
  • added docs/verification/FROZEN_BUILD_REPAIR.md
  • retained the existing WebGL and accessibility manual verification plans

Executed verification

Workflow run 30105316899 executed against the committed lockfile and passed:

  • frozen dependency installation
  • TypeScript typecheck
  • Next lint
  • production build
  • test-surface receipt
  • deterministic build archive and digest
  • lockfile digest
  • retained artifact upload

The lockfile bootstrap commit step was skipped in the final run because the verified lockfile was already committed.

Scope boundary

No files under src/**, shader sources, visual tokens, product copy, deployment configuration, secrets, or runtime behavior were changed.

Remaining manual gates

The frozen build is repaired. WebGL context recovery, shader fallback, keyboard drawer behavior, focus return, reduced motion, canvas fallback, renderer cleanup, viewport checks, and accessibility checklist evidence remain manual before merge.

Rollback

Close this PR or revert its branch commits. The runnable gallery branch remains unchanged.

Jennipher approval recorded

Approved to proceed with the verification plan and the next bounded gate.

This approval does not authorize merging PR #3 yet. It authorizes a separate lockfile-only follow-up so the frozen-install gate can run honestly.

Next approved action

Create a dedicated branch and draft PR that:

  • adds only package-lock.json
  • is generated from the existing package.json dependency graph
  • makes no changes to src/**, shaders, tokens, README, workflows, or unrelated files
  • runs npm ci, npm run typecheck, npm run lint, and npm run build
  • reports any dependency-resolution or build failures without broad remediation
  • retains exact changed-file inventory and rollback instructions

Merge gate remains closed

PR #3 must remain draft and unmerged until:

  1. the lockfile-only PR is reviewed and approved
  2. frozen install succeeds
  3. typecheck, lint, and production build succeed
  4. the build digest artifact is retained
  5. WebGL and accessibility checks are completed or tracked as explicit remediation issues

Approved by Jennipher. Stop before merge.
