Description

Moves CI's build artifacts (build_info.txt, the packaged builds *.tar.gz, and waive_list/) from sw-tensorrt-generic on urm.nvidia.com to sw-tensorrt-llm-generic-local on artifactory.nvidia.com, as the Artifactory migration program requires. Paths below llm-artifacts/ stay the same. Other llm-artifacts outputs (test results, coverage archives, wheels uploaded on their own) and other urm.nvidia.com references stay where they are for now:
TRTLLMINF-472 (test results) and TRTLLMINF-295 (wheels) move them next.

Publishing. Runs that contain this change publish the three artifact types only to the new location. There is no period of publishing to both. jenkins/Build.groovy uploads the packaged builds, with their metadata, through its own upload code. build_info.txt and waive_list/ go through the shared library's uploadArtifacts with a new opt-in destination: the trtllm-jenkins-shared-lib change on branch feature/trtllm-17014-aws-upload-destination. Its default stays urm, so branches without this change keep publishing and reading where they do today.

Reading. Every reader runs one helper, jenkins/scripts/fetch_build_artifact.sh: the L0 test stages (Kubernetes pods and Slurm jobs), the image build, BOLT profile generation, coverage-based test selection, and scripts/get_wheel_from_package.py.
The helper:

  • looks in the new location first, and falls back to urm only when the file is absent (HTTP 404),
    so builds published before this change stay readable on urm until it is retired;
  • checks every download against the SHA-1 that the serving location reports;
  • retries a CDN 403 once without the redirect;
  • stops at once, without falling back, when a credential is rejected (HTTP 401 or 403), with a
    message that names the credential and says its token needs renewal or lacks the permission.

BoltProfileGen keeps its parallel ranged download, the only reader that moves the bytes itself, and takes the file's location and checksum from the helper.

Container-image pulls and the image build's CPython source download get HTTP 403s from artifactory.nvidia.com on main. Neither goes through the helper, and this change does not address them.

Credentials. Reading from the new location needs an Artifactory access token for artifactory.nvidia.com with read access to sw-tensorrt-llm-generic-local. Developers need their own to open the links that the pipelines print, or to run scripts/get_wheel_from_package.py, which by default now needs one even for builds still on urm. CI publishes these artifacts with aws-artifactory-credentials. Before this change, this repository used that credential only in the image build, to push CI's container images, including from image builds that a pull request's run requests. CI now also reads these artifacts with it, in every environment that reads them, including hosts where a pull request's own code runs while the token is present, such as the L0 test stages and coverage-based test selection, so a pull request's code can read it. Whoever obtains the token can at least:

  • publish, replace, or delete any run's build artifacts on the new location, including the packaged builds that the test stages install and whose wheel goes into NGC release images, and the waive lists that tell the test stages which tests to skip;
  • push container images, including release staging images, to the repository that also holds the images CI's test jobs run in.

Rollback. A Jenkins global property, LLM_ARTIFACTS_PRIMARY (aws by default, or urm), sets where runs publish and which location they read first. Setting it to urm on the controllers rolls CI back without a code change. A parent pipeline passes its value to the jobs it starts. Reads fall back in both directions, so artifacts published before, during, and after a rollback stay readable.

Other changes.

  • Build reuse copies server-side within one instance. When the earlier build is only on the other instance, it rebuilds, and the log says why.
  • Links that the pipelines print for these files point to the instance that holds them.
  • publishBoltedCanonical now uploads unbolted-<tar> only after its existence check answers 404, and fails the publish on any other failed check. A failed check can no longer overwrite an existing snapshot, and curl has already retried transient failures five times by then.

Risk and performance.

  • Security: CI's publishing token, which can also push CI's container images, now reaches more hosts that run a pull request's code. The author accepted this; see Credentials above.
  • CI-wide: every stage that publishes or reads these artifacts changes. The rollback above takes
    minutes.
  • Four paths run only in the post-merge pipeline, so no pre-merge run exercises them:
    • the image build's reads;
    • BoltProfileGen's input read;
    • the bolted-<tar> property;
    • the optimized-package publish, which every pipeline currently launches with publishing off.

Test Coverage

  • tests/unittest/scripts/test_fetch_build_artifact.py: the read helper. Covers read order and fallback, checksum checks, the CDN retry, rejected credentials, and that every reader uses the helper's exit-code names.
  • tests/unittest/scripts/test_slurm_install.py:
    • the Slurm node's download through the helper;
    • static checks that jenkins/L0_Test.groovy reads packaged builds through the helper and gives each Slurm job the helper and its netrc;
    • a check that L0_Test, BuildDockerImage, BoltProfileGen, and L0_MergeRequest read with the credential that jenkins/Build.groovy publishes with, while image pulls keep their own.
  • tests/unittest/scripts/test_get_wheel_from_package.py: the image build's wheel download.
  • tests/unittest/scripts/cbts/test_coverage_artifact.py: coverage-based test selection's read of build_info.txt.
  • UploadArtifactsTest.groovy in the trtllm-jenkins-shared-lib change: the opt-in destination and its urm default.

Pipeline validation

  • Pre-merge CI on this PR publishes build_info.txt and the packaged builds to the new location, and the test stages read them from there.
  • BoltProfileGen, which only the post-merge pipeline runs, was run once by hand from a development copy of the job here, at this PR's head with promote=false. Its input was the SBSA packaged build that a CI run of this PR built and published to the new location. The run succeeded: it read the input from the new location with the SHA-1 verified, profiled it, applied the profiles in its merge step, and published nothing.

Dev Engineer Review

Artifact reads now use fetch_build_artifact.sh. The helper verifies SHA-1 checksums and falls back between AWS and URM only when the primary returns 404. Credential rejection and other transfer failures stop the read.

Artifact publishing uses the configured primary location. Build reuse checks both locations but does not copy artifacts between them. If artifacts exist only at the secondary location, the pipeline rebuilds them. This can increase build time during migration.

BOLT reads and publication behavior changed. slurm_install_setup now requires llmTarArtifactPath instead of llmTarfile. SLURM resource deregistration and reconciliation also changed. Verify cleanup for concurrent attempts.

The objectives identify four paths not exercised by pre-merge CI: image-build reads, BoltProfileGen input reads, the bolted-<tar> property, and optimized-package publishing. CI comments report mixed outcomes, including failed and aborted runs and one successful PR_Github run whose L0 pipeline failed. They do not establish an all-clear. Current review-finding counts are unavailable.

QA Engineer Review

Five test files were added or changed. The supplied test-list search found no references to these test modules in tests/integration/test_lists/. Test-list membership is therefore not established for CI or manual QA. Coverage verdict: needs follow-up, because four artifact paths were not exercised in pre-merge CI.

Per-File QA Perspective

  • docker/Dockerfile.multi — Verify that BuildKit mounts the netrc secret only when configured and passes artifact-location settings to the wheel build.
  • docker/Makefile — Verify optional secret and build-argument forwarding, including builds with unset variables.
  • jenkins/BoltProfileGen.groovy — Verify selected-location reads, authenticated downloads, checksum and retry behavior, BOLT publication status handling, and updated method calls.
  • jenkins/Build.groovy — Verify primary and secondary cache checks, no cross-instance artifact copy, and uploads to the configured primary.
  • jenkins/BuildDockerImage.groovy — Verify helper-based wheel and tarball reads, polling behavior, netrc cleanup, and location propagation to the sanity-test job.
  • jenkins/L0_MergeRequest.groovy — Verify primary-location validation and publication of waive lists and build metadata. Verify CBTS credential setup and cleanup.
  • jenkins/L0_Test.groovy — Verify helper-based reads, BOLT profile-property checks, the changed SLURM deregistration API, and per-attempt resource cleanup.
  • jenkins/scripts/cbts/cbts/command/coverage/selection/artifact.py — Verify helper exit-code mapping, missing-artifact handling, and CLI failure reporting.
  • jenkins/scripts/fetch_build_artifact.sh — Verify path validation, 404-only fallback, checksum enforcement, retries, and exit codes for download, properties, and existence modes.
  • jenkins/scripts/slurm_install.sh — Verify the new llmTarArtifactPath input and ensure failed downloads cannot install partial archives.
  • scripts/get_wheel_from_package.py — Verify helper exit-code handling, polling limits, timeout behavior, and credential-rejection reporting.
  • scripts/bolt/internal/artifactory.sh — Verify that the updated profile-store and anonymous-download documentation matches current behavior.
  • tests/unittest/scripts/cbts/test_coverage_artifact.py — Covers helper-based metadata reads, fallback, and error reporting. No reference was found in the integration test lists.

Preserve curl transfer failures during cache reuse.

artifactoryRequestStatus discards curl's exit status with || true. If the copy POST receives a 2xx response and then times out during transfer, copyCachedArtifacts can accept that status, set reused = true, and skip the rebuild. --max-time does not replace the transfer-success check.

Return 000 when curl exits nonzero, and accept the HTTP status only when curl succeeds.

Use a read-only Artifactory credential for test-container fetches.

writeArtifactoryNetrc uses aws-artifactory-credentials, which the build pipeline also uses to publish to sw-tensorrt-llm-generic-local. The sbatch path copies that credential into the mounted jobWorkspace, exports its path, and preserves it across retry cleanup. Test code can therefore read a write-capable credential during the Slurm job. Use a read-only credential scoped to artifact reads instead.

Publish build_info.txt, the packaged builds (*.tar.gz) and waive_list/ to
sw-tensorrt-llm-generic-local on artifactory.nvidia.com instead of
sw-tensorrt-generic on urm.nvidia.com, and read them from there first.

- Readers fall back to urm only when a file is absent (HTTP 404), so builds
  published before the switch stay readable. A rejected credential fails
  fast with a message that names the credential and says that its token
  needs renewal or lacks the permission the request needs, and never falls
  back.
- jenkins/scripts/fetch_build_artifact.sh is the one read helper: the
  pipelines, the Slurm jobs, the image build, coverage-based test selection
  and BOLT profile generation run it, and it checks each download's SHA-1.
- LLM_ARTIFACTS_PRIMARY=urm on the Jenkins controllers returns publishing
  and first reads to urm without a code change. A parent pipeline passes
  its value to the jobs it starts.
- Build reuse copies within one instance, and rebuilds when the earlier
  build is only on the other one.
- BOLT profile generation copies its longest cluster scripts (the two
  bootstrap downloads and the optimized-package publish) to the Slurm
  login node as files and runs them with bash, instead of sending them
  base64-encoded on the ssh command line, where a csh login shell rejects
  a word that long.
- CI reads these artifacts with aws-artifactory-credentials, the credential
  it publishes them with, in every environment that reads them, including
  hosts that run a pull request's code. That credential also pushes CI's
  container images. Container-image pulls in the test jobs and on the
  Slurm clusters keep trtllm-artifactory-credentials.
