[None][refactor] Register modeling_v2 routes with a routes decorator - #20789
Replace the hand-maintained MODELING_V2_ROUTERS table with a @routes(...) decorator on each family's route function. models/init.py imports every family's routing module, which registers its route; the resolver reads the registry through registered_routes(). Target modeling code is still imported only on the route branch that returns it.
The claims test reads the registry instead of the table, and its orphan check now catches a routing.py that is not imported or carries no @routes.
Dev Engineer Review
@routes(...) replaces the hand-maintained architecture router table. Importing models loads each family’s routing module and registers its route.
The resolver passes ModelConfig, TorchLlmArgs, and compute capability to the registered route. Routes still return a target class or raise NoTarget; off, auto, and require handling remains.
Target modeling imports remain inside the route branches that return those targets. Qwen4 now checks engine compatibility on its claimed target branch, rather than skipping those checks when optional engine arguments are absent.
Removing MODELING_V2_ROUTERS changes the package’s public exports. Consumers of that symbol must use registered_routes() instead.
No current review findings or test execution results were supplied.
QA Engineer Review
The claims test was modified. It checks routing-module registration, target directories and identity, required target files, target isolation, catalog cell drivers, and decode-phase contracts.
The test is listed in tests/integration/test_lists/test-db/l0_cpu.yml for CI. No test-list change is reported.
The source-level checks cover important structural contracts, but test execution results are unavailable. Coverage verdict: needs follow-up.
Per-File QA Perspective
tensorrt_llm/_torch/_experimental/modeling_v2/__init__.py — The package no longer exports MODELING_V2_ROUTERS. Verify callers use the replacement registry API where needed.
tensorrt_llm/_torch/_experimental/modeling_v2/_router_index.py — Routes are registered by architecture, and resolution invokes the registered function with model configuration, LLM arguments, and compute capability. Verify duplicate registration, unknown architectures, and off/auto/require behavior.
tensorrt_llm/_torch/_experimental/modeling_v2/models/__init__.py — Importing the package loads the four family routing modules. Verify each supported family registers its route and that target modeling code remains branch-local.
tensorrt_llm/_torch/_experimental/modeling_v2/models/deepseek_v3/routing.py — The route now takes ModelConfig and TorchLlmArgs and registers DeepseekV3ForCausalLM. Verify its deployment gates and target selection.
tensorrt_llm/_torch/_experimental/modeling_v2/models/glm_moe_dsa/routing.py — The route now takes ModelConfig and TorchLlmArgs and registers GlmMoeDsaForCausalLM. Verify its deployment gates and target selection.
tensorrt_llm/_torch/_experimental/modeling_v2/models/gpt_oss/routing.py — The route now takes ModelConfig and TorchLlmArgs and registers GptOssForCausalLM. Verify its deployment gates and target selection.
tensorrt_llm/_torch/_experimental/modeling_v2/models/qwen4_exp/routing.py — The route now registers Qwen4ExpForConditionalGeneration and checks engine choices on the matching target branch. Verify unsupported engine choices raise NoTarget and allow the expected fallback.
tests/unittest/_torch/modeling_v2/test_modeling_v2_claims.py — The claims test derives routes from the registry and detects unregistered on-disk routing modules, orphan target directories, and other source-level contract violations. It is listed in tests/integration/test_lists/test-db/l0_cpu.yml (CI).
tensorrt_llm/_torch/_experimental/modeling_v2/README.md — The documented route signature now uses model_config, llm_args, and compute_capability. Verify the diagram matches the resolver API.

Walkthrough
Modeling V2 now registers architecture-specific route callables from model-family routing modules. The resolver uses the registry to select and invoke a route. Routing checks, package exports, and route documentation were updated to use the registry and the new route inputs.

Summary
Register family routes tensorrt_llm/_torch/_experimental/modeling_v2/_router_index.py, tensorrt_llm/_torch/_experimental/modeling_v2/models/__init__.py, tensorrt_llm/_torch/_experimental/modeling_v2/models/*/routing.py
The router index adds a route registry and @routes(...) decorator. Importing the models package loads the DeepSeek V3, GLM MoE DSA, GPT-OSS, and Qwen4 routing modules. These modules register architecture-specific routes and read routing inputs from ModelConfig and TorchLlmArgs. Qwen4 engine checks now require engine choices.
The resolver selects a registered route or raises NoTarget with registered architectures. The package removes the MODELING_V2_ROUTERS export. Routing checks derive architectures and module paths from registered routes, and the README documents the updated route inputs.

Current model routing is unaffected, but duplicate routes could select the wrong family. Fix the registration guard before adding routes that may conflict.

It names the main change: replacing the MODELING_V2_ROUTERS table with a @routes decorator on each family's route function. It is specific enough for a teammate scanning history.

Explanation
The description summarizes the change. It states that the hand-maintained MODELING_V2_ROUTERS table is replaced by a @routes(...) decorator, that models/init.py imports each family's routing module, and that the resolver reads the registry via registered_routes(). It also covers the claims test change and the lazy import behavior. However, the template sections are left as unfilled placeholders: the '## Description' section is not filled in beyond the author's prose, '## Test Coverage' is empty and no tests or test command are listed, and the PR Checklist is unchecked. The description is mostly complete in substance but lacks test coverage details.
Resolution
Add the relevant tests under '## Test Coverage' (for example, the claims test that now reads the registry and checks for orphan routing.py files, and any resolver tests run locally or in CI). Move the summary into the '## Description' section so it sits under the template heading. Complete or acknowledge the PR Checklist items, such as documentation updates and API label status (the removal of the MODELING_V2_ROUTERS export may need an api-compatible or api-breaking label).

route(model_config, llm_args, compute_capability) replaces the five facts
the resolver used to read out for it. Each family reads the pretrained
config, mapping and spec config off the ModelConfig, and the KV-cache
algorithm the engine will run with through engine_kv_cache_quant_algo.
Every route now receives the ModelConfig and the LLM args, so qwen4_exp
always checks its engine choices.
