Project H/(TP*CP) MLA query heads for context tokens while retaining H/TP query heads and the existing Helix exchange for generation. Keep context KV expansion, RoPE and attention buffers consistent. Reuse loaded BF16/FP8 projection weights and the existing GEMM paths. Preserve the 128-row scale grid and prepare movable, nonpersistent slice-scale buffers with invalidation on weight reload or transform. Cover projection slices, scale layouts, cache lifecycle and complete K3 MLA outputs across context, cached/chunked context and mixed decode. Description
Helix MLA prefill projects
H/TPquery heads per rank, while the output projection consumesH/(TP*CP)heads. Partition the context Q projection, K/V expansion, RoPE dimensions, and attention buffers across TP and CP. Decode retains its existing TP-local head count and Helix exchange.Reuse the loaded BF16/FP8 projection weights and existing GEMM dispatch. FP8 slices retain their original 128-row scale grid, including unaligned head boundaries and SM107 R128c4 scales. Prepare fixed slice scales through the MLA derived-state hook, retain them as movable nonpersistent buffers, and invalidate them when weights are reloaded or transformed.
The GMS read-only loader now marks imported post-transform weights before rebuilding derived slice state, preventing a second FP8 scale transform. Slice preparation also validates LoRA and quantization support during model loading, so unsupported projections fail before the first context request.
The context head-partitioning work in this PR covers dense MLA's TRTLLM attention-backend paths, including Kimi K3. Dense Helix configurations using other attention backends are rejected during construction, before projection or backend allocation. Sparse MLA paths (DSA and DeepSeek-V4, where
sparse_attn_hooksis enabled) retain their existing head layout. Their Helix context/output-projection head-layout compatibility is outside this PR and remains follow-up work.Tracks TRTLLM-17121, part of TRTLLM-16624. This is the MLA head-partitioning prerequisite for aggregated Helix; request admission and cache allocation are covered by the companion #20759. Owner-only cache writes and distributed historical-KV gathering follow separately. This PR does not enable aggregate serving by itself.
Performance follow-up (separate PR): share FP8 activation quantization between the K/V projection slices and investigate avoiding the concatenation copy. These optimizations are outside this PR.

Test Coverage
tests/unittest/_torch/modules/test_linear_output_slice.py: BF16/FP8 output slices, bias, scale boundaries, K3 native/DeepGEMM dispatch, prepared-scale lifecycle, weight reload, and CPU rejection of unsupported LoRA/NVFP4 slicing during preparation. GPU cases are selected byl0_gb300.yml; the CPU scale-cache and early-rejection cases are selected byl0_cpu.yml.tests/unittest/_torch/executor/test_model_loader_gms.py: a CPU read-only GMS regression checks that imported transformed weights are marked before derived slice state is rebuilt. The CPU executor-directory selection includes this file.tests/unittest/_torch/attention/multi_gpu/test_mla_helix_context.py: complete small K3 MLA-layer outputs with CP1/CP2 and TP2/CP2, BF16/FP8 weights, gating, unaligned head boundaries, fresh/cached/chunked context, and mixed context/decode. The existing GB300 multi-GPU attention-directory selection includes this file.tests/unittest/_torch/attention/test_attention_mla.py: seven focused CPU constructor-contract cases cover early rejection of unsupported dense Helix backends, both mapping routes, and preservation of non-Helix and sparse initialization behavior.tests/unittest/_torch/attention/multi_gpu/test_mla_helix.py: retain the existing decode regression fixture with context buffers sized for the phase-dependent head layout. The context fixture deliberately uses replicated history to isolate head partitioning. It does not validate owner-only persistence or distributed cache handoff.
Validation
py_compile,git diff --check, and manual AST verification of the new CPU CI selector pass. The new GMS and early-rejection cases have not run under full TRT-LLM pytest. Three local hooks were skipped: the legacy-config check reports unrelated stale entries, while the waiver and test-list scripts require Python 3.10+ but this Windows hook uses Python 3.9. Earlier test-list/waiver results below apply to the previous head.git diff --checkpass. CPU source-helper checks pass 24 FP8 scale layout/range cases, including padded tails, buffer reuse, device moves and state-dict exclusion. Additional host checks cover Q/K/V slice preparation, reload invalidation, and K3 dispatch; GPU GEMM and quantized-loader calls are mocked. These extracted-source checks are not a full TensorRT-LLM pytest run.2676d6baport, 36 source-extracted CPU cases passed, including the former 14-case constructor matrix and 22 existing projection/loader fixture cases. The current seven constructor cases are a subset of that matrix; the rejected-backend cases previously failed on the parent, passed with the guard, and failed again when the parent constructor was restored. The CPU harness stubs model configuration, omits MPI topology and uses the tests' CPU BMM reference; it does not validate native runtime/backend allocation or GPU execution.PR Checklist

Dense MLA context prefill now partitions heads across context-parallel ranks for projections, RoPE, attention buffers, and cached and chunked prefill paths. Decode retains the tensor-parallel head count and Helix exchange. Dense Helix configurations with a non-TRTLLM backend are rejected. Sparse MLA head-layout compatibility and aggregate serving remain outside scope.
New output-slice APIs support local COLUMN projections for unquantized and FP8 block-scale weights. FP8 slicing preserves the original 128-row scale grid and caches prepared scales. Cache invalidation and GMS read-only loading depend on the weight lifecycle hooks added in this change.
The distributed test fixture replicates KV history. It does not validate owner-only persistence or distributed cache handoff. Current-port GPU validation, full-checkpoint aggregate serving, and performance remain pending. Reported CPU checks do not validate GPU execution or native backend allocation.
QA Engineer Review
Changed tests cover linear output slicing, distributed Helix context heads, dense Helix backend validation, and GMS read-only loading. Other modified tests update Helix buffer sizing and initialize context-head fields in an MLA idempotence test.
The output-slice module is listed in

No entries were found for the changed Helix distributed test modules ortest_model_loader_gms.pyin the inspected CI or manual-QA lists.Coverage verdict: needs follow-up. Reported CPU cases do not validate GPU execution. Distributed tests use replicated KV history and do not cover owner-only persistence or cache handoff.
