[#15178][fix] Account for reclaimable memory in V2 KV cache sizing on integrated GPUs - #20951
V2 KV-cache sizing on integrated GPUs now uses Linux MemAvailable to account for reclaimable page cache. The estimate is capped by device capacity and finite cgroup-v2 headroom, and never falls below CUDA free memory. When the estimate is unavailable, the helper falls back to CUDA free memory. The change applies to V2 estimation and profiling; the source docstring states that other paths retain their existing behavior. No review findings or test execution results were supplied.
QA Engineer Review
The modified CPU-only test module adds coverage for /proc/meminfo parsing, cgroup headroom, estimate bounds and fallback, V2/integrated-GPU gating, provisional quota sizing, and final profiling budget. No changed integration tests or test-list entries were identified. Coverage verdict: sufficient for the described accounting and gating behavior; execution results are unavailable.
Per-File QA Perspective
tensorrt_llm/_torch/pyexecutor/_util.py: Verify that integrated-GPU V2 quota estimates use the bounded host-memory estimate, while CUDA free memory remains the lower bound and fallback. V1 and discrete-GPU behavior should remain unchanged.
tests/unittest/_torch/executor/kv_cache/test_kv_cache_estimation.py: New tests exercise parsing, cgroup accounting, gating, and V2 quota calculations. This is a unit-test file, not an integration test, so no test-db/ or qa/ list entry applies.
Description
On integrated GPUs such as GB10 / DGX Spark, model loading and container pulls can leave substantial host page cache in the same physical memory pool used by CUDA. In the reproduced failures, torch.cuda.mem_get_info() understates the memory available after reclamation. V2 then rejects the provisional or final KV cache quota because it cannot hold the live Mamba states, even though the workload fits when reclaimable memory is counted.
This change uses Linux MemAvailable when sizing the V2 KV cache on integrated GPUs. It adjusts all three measurements: the provisional quota, memory usage after loading weights, and memory usage after profiling. The additional headroom is bounded by device capacity and the available cgroup-v2 estimate; the existing CUDA free-memory value remains the lower bound and fallback. Explicit user caps, the configured free-memory fraction, and the live-state minimum remain in force. V1 and discrete GPUs retain their existing accounting.
Related to #15178 and #15215. The issue originally described V1's zero-token estimate. #15215 changes that V1 path; V2 bypasses it and has been the default since #17495. This PR addresses the corresponding V2 quota failure and does not replace the V1 fix.
Test Coverage
The added CPU tests cover memory-information parsing and fallback, cgroup headroom, the V2/integrated-device gate, explicit provisional caps, and final profiling accounting. They are in the existing cpu_only estimation test module, included through unittest/_torch/executor in l0_cpu.yml.
The runtime patch was tested on DGX Spark / GB10 (ARM64, one GPU), with both control and treatment pinned to nvcr.io/nvidia/tensorrt-llm/release:1.4.0rc1.dev202610190007. The treatment changed memory accounting only. Both arms retained V2, maximum batch size 512, maximum tokens 8192, sequence length 3000, free-memory fraction 0.9, and block reuse disabled. Each successful benchmark completed five requests at input/output lengths 2000/128 and concurrency 1.

… cache sizing
Use MemAvailable for provisional and profiled V2 KV-cache sizing on integrated GPUs. Preserve the CUDA baseline, explicit user quotas, and V1/discrete behavior. Add CPU regression coverage for accounting, gating, and quota propagation.

KV cache V2 memory sizing now accounts for reclaimable host page cache on integrated GPUs. The estimate uses kernel available memory and finite cgroup headroom, and retains CUDA free memory as a fallback and lower bound. Other configurations continue to use CUDA-reported values.
The memory estimate reads kernel available memory and finite cgroup headroom. It caps the estimate at device total, does not go below CUDA free memory, and falls back to CUDA free memory when the estimate is unavailable. Tests cover parsing, malformed or missing data, and estimate bounds.
Apply estimates to KV cache V2 sizing tensorrt_llm/_torch/pyexecutor/_util.py, tests/unittest/_torch/executor/kv_cache/test_kv_cache_estimation.py
KV cache V2 estimation and profiling use adjusted memory values only for integrated GPUs. Tests cover device and manager gating, provisional quotas, and final budget calculations.

NVIDIA/NemoClaw issue 7127: This change adds reclaimable host memory to KV cache V2 accounting on integrated GPUs, which overlaps with the issue’s host-memory headroom objective. The issue also covers managed vLLM MTP and CUDA-graph behavior.
On integrated GPUs using the V2 KV cache, the new sizing can overestimate usable memory in containers or hosts with tight cgroup limits, particularly with large shared-memory usage or a non-namespaced hierarchy. Typical setups are bounded by MemAvailable and device total. The impact is limited, but these cases are worth fixing or consciously accepting before merge.

Resolve the effective cgroup limit for non-namespaced hosts.
On a bare cgroup-v2 host under systemd slices, /sys/fs/cgroup can be the hierarchy root while the process has a tighter child or ancestor limit. The helper can then return None or too much headroom, and integrated-GPU V2 sizing can exceed the process limit.
This is bounded by MemAvailable, device total, and CUDA free memory, and a private cgroup namespace may expose the process cgroup at the mount root. Scope the fix to the non-namespaced case, resolve /proc/self/cgroup, walk ancestors, and apply the tightest finite limit. Add a regression test for a child cgroup with a tighter limit than the mount root.

Exclude non-reclaimable file memory from cgroup headroom.
If a cgroup holds substantial tmpfs or shared-memory data, memory.stat includes that data in file. Line 131 treats all of it as reclaimable. The resulting V2 quota can exceed memory that the cgroup can release, causing allocation failure or a cgroup OOM. Use a conservative reclaimable-file estimate, and add a test with a large shmem counter and a tight memory.max. The Linux kernel defines file to include tmpfs and shared memory. (cdn.kernel.org)
