HandleConfigUpdates calls deleteConfigUpdateExecutors for every node it resets, but no spec exercised that wiring: dropping or moving the call would let a reset node finish on a Job still running the old ConfigMap without failing a test. Seed an unfinished config Job on a reset node and on a node the reset leaves alone, and assert only the first is cleared. LGTM. The spec fails if the deleteConfigUpdateExecutors call is dropped, and also if the call runs on every node.
Optional: also seed a finished Job that has already been recorded on the reset node, and assert that it survives. Today the suite still passes if the delete condition becomes if true, and that is the "delete-all-matching" regression the function's comment warns about.

No blocking issues; 2 non-blocking comments.

nit (non-blocking): The comment says the erroring node is the one the reset clears, but the interrupt node at 3001 is reset and its Job deleted too (asserted at 3047).
A reader takes the erroring node as the only reset target and may drop the interrupt node as redundant, losing the coverage for non-erroring reset nodes. The PR description repeats the two-node wording ("a node the reset clears ... and a node it leaves alone").
Reword the comment as below and update the PR description to describe the three seeded nodes.
| // the erroring node opens the gate, and is the one the reset clears | |
| // the erroring node opens the gate; it and the interrupt node are both reset |

Reworded as suggested in 8d266f0, and the PR description now describes all three seeded nodes.

question: #776 has no assignee, and the PR description does not say which make targets were run.
CONTRIBUTING.md and CLAUDE.md require every PR to link an issue assigned to its author and to note what was run locally; test-only changes are not one of the exceptions. The earlier /assign @nko-cpu on #776 failed only because you had not commented there yet, which is no longer the case.
Could you comment /assign on #776 and add the make targets you ran (for example make vet lint unit-tests from operator/) to the PR description?

Commented /assign on #776, and added the checks I ran to the description: make vet lint and go test ./internal/controller/ from operator/. The full make unit-tests target runs in CI.

Re-approving. The interrupt-stage node covers a reset node that didn't open the gate.
Summary
Part of #776. Follow-up requested by @lockwobr on #776 (from #788).
HandleConfigUpdatesclears executors on every node it resets (deleteConfigUpdateExecutors), so the config stage re-runs on the new ConfigMap. No spec covered that wiring: dropping or moving the call would let a reset node finish on a Job still running the old data without failing a test.Change
One envtest spec next to the other
HandleConfigUpdatesones. It seeds an unfinished config Job on each of three nodes:config, which opens the gate and is reset;interrupt(in progress), which is reset without erroring, so cleanup cannot depend on the gate-opening node;apply, which the reset leaves alone. It runs
HandleConfigUpdatesand asserts the first two Jobs are deleted and the third is kept. envtest runs no garbage collector, so a foreground delete shows as adeletionTimestamp.Checked it fails when the
deleteConfigUpdateExecutorscall is removed.Tested locally (from
operator/)make vet lintgo test ./internal/controller/(the whole package, envtest 1.34.1)The full
make unit-teststarget runs in CI.🤖 Generated with Claude Code
