🚀 Quick Start

1. Get Credentials

Get your free scraping token from the Thordata Dashboard.

2. Install

git clone https://github.com/Thordata/google-maps-scraper-python.git
cd google-maps-scraper-python
pip install -r requirements.txt

3. Configure

Copy .env.example to .env and fill in your tokens:

THORDATA_SCRAPER_TOKEN=your_token_here

4. Run Scraper

Search for businesses:

python main.py search "Pizza in New York" --limit 10

Get details (Deep Scrape by URL – backward compatible CLI):

Get reviews:

5. Use Python to cover all official Google Maps spiders

src.scraper.GoogleMapsScraper is aligned with all Google Maps spider_id values from the official docs, grouped into two categories:

Details spiders
- google_map-details_by-url → details_by_url(...)
- google_map-details_by-cid → details_by_cid(...)
- google_map-details_by-location → details_by_location(...)
- google_map-details_by-placeid → details_by_placeid(...)
Reviews spiders
- google_comment_by-url → reviews_by_url(...)

🏗️ Architecture

This scraper uses a Hybrid Architecture to ensure speed and cost-efficiency:

Search Phase: Uses Thordata's SERP API for extremely fast retrieval of business lists.
Detail/Review Phase: Uses Thordata's Web Scraper API (Async Tasks) to render full pages and extract deep attributes without getting blocked.

The ThordataClient automatically handles authentication, task polling, and error retries.

What This Example Does Not Collect

This repository is an example client for authorized Thordata SERP API requests. It does not include Google account credentials, browser cookies, private sessions, or local browser automation.

The example does not grant rights to collect, reuse, train on, or redistribute third-party Google Maps data. Use it only for lawful and authorized workflows.

Never place API keys, private URLs, personal information, or returned private data in source files, logs, README files, or commits.

Failure Behavior

Requests may fail because of invalid credentials, unsupported parameters, rate limits, endpoint restrictions, or temporary service errors.

When a request fails, treat the response as an error rather than valid location data. Check the terminal output and API response for details. Exact error codes and limits depend on the account and endpoint.

When modifying or running this example:

Read .env.example and keep credentials in environment variables.
Check the existing configuration before inventing request parameters.
Preserve the current SERP API request flow.
Never print or commit API keys, cookies, private URLs, or personal data.
Review returned business, location, contact, and review data before sharing it.
Treat returned Google Maps data as third-party data subject to applicable terms and usage restrictions.
