What changed

  • set the package and installation target to the stable 0.2.0 release
  • documented where the synchronous console logger fits today
  • clearly called out the current performance and provider limitations
  • separated provider pipelines, structured records, JSON Lines, file rotation, buffering, and syslog into a future experimental 0.3.0-rc.x roadmap
  • regenerated the GIF and MP4 live demo with the 0.2 label

Why

Version 0.2 is the stable Zig 0.16 and Chroma 0.2 redesign. It is intended for CLI tools, development utilities, and applications with modest logging volume.

The comptime renderer removes syntax and style parsing from the hot path, but the current logger still reads the clock, formats runtime arguments, locks stderr, and performs synchronous I/O for every enabled record. The README now sets that expectation without marking the whole 0.2 release as experimental.

More ambitious provider and buffering work remains opt-in design work for a future 0.3 release-candidate series.

Validation

  • zig fmt --check .
  • zig build test
  • zig build benchmark -Doptimize=ReleaseFast
  • zig build -Doptimize=ReleaseFast
  • vhs validate docs/demo.tape
  • regenerated and visually inspected both video outputs
