Same issue as #230, duplicated in the ack-id package README the controller-credential verify example referenced controllerCredential instead of the actually declared credential variable.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Documentation
    • Updated the credential-verification example to create a controller keypair and DID web document, then register the document with the resolver.
    • The example signs the credential as a JWT, parses it into a credential, and passes the parsed credential to verifyParsedCredential.

Walkthrough

The README example now creates a controller DID document, signs the credential as a JWT, parses it with the resolver, and passes the parsed credential to verifyParsedCredential.

The README verification example may fail unless the agent DID already has a document declaring the controller. This is a localized example issue; adding and caching that document would make the example self-contained.

createControllerCredential returns an unsigned credential, and the
documented flow did not sign or parse it before verification.
verifyParsedCredential requires a proof and throws InvalidProofError
otherwise. Sign the credential with signCredential, pass the returned
JWT to parseJwtCredential, then verify the parsed credential.

Pass a Signer object to signCredential.

signCredential requires { did, signer, alg? }, but createJwtSigner(keypair) returns only the signing function. This call does not satisfy the signing API contract and cannot type-check as written.

Suggested fix
-const jwt = await signCredential(credential, createJwtSigner(keypair))
+const jwt = await signCredential(credential, {
+ did: controllerDid,
+ signer: createJwtSigner(keypair),
+ alg: "ES256K",

Register the generated key for controllerDid before parsing the JWT.

Correcting the Signer argument does not bind the generated secp256k1 key to controllerDid. The shown resolver has no cached DID document for that issuer. Therefore, parseJwtCredential can fail to verify the JWT unless the resolver already exposes a document containing that exact public key. Cache createDidDocumentFromKeypair({ did: controllerDid, keypair }) in the resolver, or use an already published matching controller key.

Pass a proper Signer object ({did, signer, alg}) to signCredential
instead of a bare JwtSigner function. Also derive controllerDid from
the signing keypair via createDidWebDocumentFromKeypair and register
the resulting DID document with resolver.addToCache before parsing
the JWT, so the resolver can find the verification key.

Cache the agent DID document before verification.

getControllerClaimVerifier() resolves the credential subject DID and requires its document to declare controller. The example caches only the controller document, so it can fail unless https://agent.example.com independently serves an agent document with controller: controllerDid.
