What

D5, the last change from "One catalog" (core/README.md):

  1. The contract says whose an evening is. list_events and get_event now carry curation (ours or shared) and organizer (its name and site, or null for ours). Before, an evening we only share came back looking like one of ours, to agents, the CLI and the Claude plugin. The v1 API already published curation and organizedBy.
  2. The speakers list is our evenings' speakers. list_speakers and /api/v1/speakers leave out talks at evenings we only share, as /people does and as the tool's own description says ("past allthings events").
  3. The CLI is held to core's contract. The old app's schemas are no longer the reference.

These change behaviour on purpose: two fields are added to the event contract, and shared evenings' speakers drop out of the speakers list.

The contract

  • core/src/contract.ts: EventSummary (and so Event) gains curation and organizer, with descriptions for agents. Its header says it is the one source of the contract and the app's schemas are legacy.
  • Where the values come from: Rows.Event carries the evening's curation (curationJson), and toEventSummary maps it. An organizer's site is published only when it is an http(s) URL (httpUrlOrNull).
  • The speakers list: Speakers and V1Data.directory read talk appearances with whose: "ours".

The CLI

  • cli/src/schemas.ts: gains both fields. Its header says it mirrors core's contract.
  • allthings events and allthings event: mark a shared evening "shared · by Mastra", or just "shared" when no organizer is named. allthings event also links the organizer's site. Ours says nothing of it.
  • core/tests/contract.test.ts now holds the CLI's zod copy to core's contract, where it used to hold core to the app's zod. It checks the same JSON Schema shape (without descriptions, which are served from core) and the same verdicts, including shared, unknown curation and organizer cases. It also checks that the CLI recognizes get_event's not-found message. Breaking the CLI's copy fails it (checked by mutation). The captured live fixtures predate the fields, so they are read with them as they were then: every evening ours.
  • cli/tests/contract.test.ts (the CLI held to the app) is deleted: core's test does that job, against the contract itself.
  • CI: cli.yaml no longer installs the app or watches its files. core.yaml runs on cli/src/**, so a change to the CLI's copy runs the test that holds it.

The app is legacy

Where tests still compare the Worker with the old app, they compare it on the fields the app has. Each now says the app is legacy and no longer the reference:

  • core/tests/parity.test.ts: core's list_events and get_event without curation and organizer equal the app's.
  • web/tests/worker.test.ts: the Worker's MCP answers, in structuredContent and in their JSON text, are compared without the two fields. Its tool output schemas are compared without their two properties, and the test checks the served schema has curation.

The parity test

web/tests/parity.test.ts no longer has any test.failing: every disagreement it recorded is settled.

  • Plain tests now: "everyone list_speakers lists is on /people with those talks" and "/about counts the speakers list_speakers lists".
  • New: "list_events says whose each evening is, as /events does". Mastra's two evenings are shared, by Mastra, on both.

The plugin

find-evenings and evening-briefing tell agents that an evening with curation: "shared" is someone else's that allthings shares. It is named as written, never allthings/, and they say who organizes it.

Verified

  • core: all 2263 tests pass. web: all 1074 pass. cli: all 22 pass. Prettier, typecheck and oxlint are clean.
  • The local CodeRabbit review's findings are fixed (the skill's naming rule, a shared evening without a named organizer); its last run had none.
  • No migration. Nothing was deployed.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features
    • Event listings and details now identify evenings shared from another organizer and show the organizer’s name and website when available.
    • Event data now includes whether an evening is ours or shared, along with organizer details for shared evenings.
    • CLI event lists and details display a shared-evening label, with organizer information in event details when available.
  • Changes
    • Speaker directories now count talks from our own evenings, rather than including talks from evenings we share.

Learning: In this repository, cli/src/schemas.ts intentionally uses Zod z.httpUrl() for URL fields, including organizer.url. Zod normalizes surrounding whitespace and embedded tabs and newlines, while core/src/contract.ts uses HttpUrl to reject unclean URLs. This difference is intentional because core serves clean URLs and the CLI consumes server output. core/tests/contract.test.ts documents these divergent verdicts; do not require stricter validation for organizer.url alone.

📝 Walkthrough

Walkthrough

Event data now includes curation and organizer details, and the CLI displays attribution for shared events. Speaker directory results are limited to the site’s own evenings. Contract, parity, workflow, and documentation updates cover these changes across core, web, and CLI surfaces.

Changes

Event Curation and Directory

Layer / File(s) Summary
Event contract and CLI output
core/src/contract.ts, core/src/rows.ts, core/src/events.ts, core/src/mappers.ts, core/src/errors.ts, cli/src/schemas.ts, cli/src/format.ts, cli/tests/*, core/tests/contract.test.ts, core/tests/mappers.test.ts, core/tests/repositories.test.ts, .github/workflows/cli.yaml, .github/workflows/core.yaml
Core and CLI schemas include curation and organizer fields. Core mapping supplies those fields, and CLI output displays shared-event attribution and organizer URLs. Tests, fixtures, and workflows cover the updated contract and CLI.
Speaker directory scope
core/src/speakers.ts, web/src/v1/data.ts, web/tests/parity.test.ts
Core and v1 directory queries select talk appearances at the site’s own evenings. Web parity tests check speaker listings against the people page.
Surface parity and shared-evening guidance
core/tests/parity.test.ts, web/tests/parity.test.ts, web/tests/worker.test.ts, core/README.md, plugins/allthings/skills/*
Parity tests account for curation and organizer fields across available surfaces. README and skill instructions describe shared-evening fields and speaker scope.

Priority: ➖ Normal

Estimated code review effort: 3 (Moderate) | ~25 minutes

Change: Feature

Merge Risk: ⚪ Minimal · up to 2c069

The CLI normalizes whitespace in organizer URLs, and the documented server contract requires clean values. No actionable merge-blocking risk remains.

Security Architecture Review

Security architecture risk: 🔵 Low · up to 7802e

The change concerns public catalog attribution and narrows speaker listings. The main design risk is compatibility between the updated CLI and an older or rolled-back server. No concrete new security attack path was established, but deployed data-writer permissions and release ordering remain unverified.

Retained concerns

  • Low · reliability · inferred: The updated CLI requires curation and organizer and rejects base-shaped event responses. Releasing it before a compatible server, or rolling the server back alone, can therefore disable event commands. Same-revision parity checks do not resolve this rollback coupling; actual release ordering and compatibility policy are unverified.
Security review details

Security Blast Radius

  • observed — The inspected exposure expands published-event attribution to MCP, CLI, and agent consumers while narrowing both speaker directories. Organizer data comes from the existing sponsor relation, not an organizer object supplied by the public event caller.

Trust Boundaries and Controls

  • observed — The CLI formats organizer attribution and prints its URL. The briefing skill asks the agent to link the organizer's site; it does not add an instruction to execute content or send credentials there. URL syntax validation does not establish that the destination is trustworthy.
  • observed — The existing curation command decodes a fixed checked-in backfill and writes through an environment-provided database connection. Its schemas require sourced HTTPS organizer websites, and database constraints bind shared events to a sponsor. These controls predate this PR; deployed credential holders and effective write permissions remain unverified.

Resilience and Maintainability Implications

  • observed — On a response-contract mismatch, the CLI returns a service error rather than silently treating incomplete attribution as valid. This preserves validation but causes the mixed-version failure described in the rollback concern.
