🔒 Security & Privacy | 🟠 Major | 🏗️ Heavy liftRemove legacy activation-job RBAC during upgrade.
An upgrade from a release with a nonempty
EDA_ACTIVATION_JOB_NAMESPACEcan leave the oldRoleandRoleBindingin that namespace. The binding still grants the activation-worker service account create, delete, get, list, patch, update, and watch access to secrets, pods, pod logs, services, and jobs. The current reconciliation removed the read-before-apply and cleanup steps. Add a migration cleanup path that reads the old ConfigMap value before applying the replacement and deletes both legacy objects. Ensure that path has authorization to delete namespaced RBAC objects in the old namespace. The current controller
Roleis namespaced, so simply restoring the old tasks does not establish cleanup for an arbitrary old namespace.🤖 Prompt for AI Agents

Ensure the cleanup identity has permission to delete namespaced RBAC objects in that prior namespace; the current controller Role’s namespace-scoped authorization is insufficient for arbitrary old namespaces.

Summary
Reverts #345, which added the experimental
spec.activation_worker.activation_job_namespacefield.Why
The field caused the Operator to manage RBAC resources in an arbitrary user-selected namespace and required additional cluster-scoped permissions. That interface was experimental, upstream-only, and has not been backported to a stable release.
This revert removes the interface before it becomes a supported compatibility commitment.
Breaking change (upstream only)
The following EDA CR configuration is no longer supported:
This PR removes:
EDA_ACTIVATION_JOB_NAMESPACEfrom that field. The Operator returns to its previous same-namespace activation-job behavior.
Users who tested this experimental configuration should:
activation_worker.activation_job_namespacefrom their EDA CR.Validation
Validated an OpenShift upgrade from the #345 implementation to this revert:
EDA_ACTIVATION_JOB_NAMESPACE.IMPORTANT
Before upgrading (i.e: changing the CRD, which removes the
spec.activation_worker.activation_job_namespacefield), any rulebook activations that are still running in the previous namespace must be stopped before, so they can be properly migrated to the default namespace (the same one running the rest of the control plane). After performing the upgrade, the legacy target-namespace Role/RoleBinding resources will remain, as expected, for administrators to review and remove any stale/orphaned/duplicate rulebook activations that might exist in the legacy target-namespace.
