Deploy from sources

To deploy from the source download get the bv.scripts package, It will ease greatly the installation:

git clone http://github.com/bisonvert/bv.scripts
cd bv.scripts

We will comment each steps of the process, yet do not hesitate to glance at the script files to see what they do as they are relatively simple to get.

Before each major action, an explicit question is asked. You can choose to interrupt by pressing Ctrl-C if you think this may endanger your system/data. Hopefully, it is normally far from possible :)

Installation steps : set up a Minitage environment

Configure the root project

If you attempt to run any bv.scripts' file, it will fail. Indeed, you need to configure the root directory under which all your application and minitage will be installed.

Edit the file etc/conf.sh". Remove the warning message and the "exit -1" command and set ROOT_INSTALL as needed.

The root install directory will contains:

  • minitage/: the minitage directory, that will contains the bv.client project.
  • tools/: a directory containing a custom Python
  • .buildout/: a directory containing a cache of all downloaded eggs

Having chosen your root install directory, you need to make sure you will have the write access on all of those.

Configure buildout

Buildout will be extensively used, the downloaded eggs should be shared among all eggs.

If you don't have any configuration file ($HOME/.buildout/default.cfg) defined. This script will create one for you based on the ROOT_INSTALL variable you gave him on the previous section (the cache directory will be located under the root project).

./minitage-setup/buildout-cache.sh

Custom Python and VirtualEnv

We will now build our own Python (we have many requirement, eg: python must be compiled with the ucs4 option - which is not default on the majority of systems). and set up a VirtualEnv for Minitage to run in.

The compilation part will begin, so you will need to install all the necesserary tools.

The compilation of your own Python and the VirtualEnv set up may be a bit long, be patient !

./minitage-setup/virtualenv.sh

Installing minitage

We will now install minitage itself, which is fairly quick.

./minitage-setup/install-minitage.sh

You know have successfully built your minitage set up !

Installation steps : install the BisonVert client

This step will take a lot of time.

You have two options:

  • Only install dependencies of the BisonVert client
  • Install all dependencies AND the BisonVert client at the same time

The resolution of all the BisonVert client's dependencies implies a lot of compilation and time; the installation of the client itself is very fast. So there is not much difference.

If you choose to only install dependencies of the BisonVert client, you will end in the state of the archive: you will have the choice to install the client by the archive way or by the source.

Otherwise, you will finish the installation and may jump to the configuration part.

Install BisonVert client

It will fetch the installation directives (minilays) and install the client in $ROOT_PATH/minitage/django/bv.client.

./bv/install-client.sh

Hit enter to continue the installation of the bv.client package.

When asked choose between the BisonVert full version ('y') - recommended - or only dependencies ('n').

Next steps

If you chose to install the BisonVert full version, jump to the configuration part.

If you chose to only install the dependencies of BisonVert, jump to the installation of the BisonVert client itself
