fix!: v3 document reads, safe local mirror sync and CVE dependency updates - #1
Conversation
Use the supported v3 metadata and Markdown routes after verifying that the same token and native document succeed there while the legacy read returns 403. Keep legacy document writes unchanged. BREAKING CHANGE: document metadata reads return v3 camelCase fields. Use niftypm_get_document_content for the Markdown body.
Validate complete endpoint-specific collections, preserve scoped sections and local enrichment, refuse unintended empty overwrites, and back up atomic replacements. Serialise read/fetch/write operations and contain asynchronous callback failures. BREAKING CHANGE: automatic local mirror sync is disabled unless NIFTYPM_AUTO_SYNC=true. Manual empty overwrites require --allow-empty.
Targeted transitive updates within existing ranges: proxy-addr 2.0.8 (CVE-2026-90711) and npm 11.21.0, whose bundle ships tar 7.5.22 (CVE-2026-59873). Direct dependencies and application SDK versions are unchanged; installed-package and lockfile floor regressions guard both fixes.
📝 SummarySummary
VerificationThe supplied summary reports 548 passing tests across 43 files, successful The supplied summary reports 124 pre-existing raw audit findings across 29 packages that remain untriaged. WalkthroughThe pull request adds v3 document metadata and Markdown-content reads. It replaces CLI and mutation-triggered mirror updates with shared validation and file-writing helpers. Automatic mirror sync is opt-in. The changes also add regression coverage, operational guidance, decision records, CI checks, and dependency-version contract tests. ChangesDocument read tools

82-87: 🚀 Performance & Scalability | 🔵 TrivialPlan backup retention for automatic sync.
Each successful
writeMirrorcall with apreviousstate creates a new full-sizeproject.json.<UUID>.bakfile. WithNIFTYPM_AUTO_SYNC=true, every supported POST, PUT or DELETE that resolves to a mirror makes one of these backups. A long-running server session can therefore leave hundreds of full mirror copies inniftypm/. The docs state that operators manage retention, but no tool or warning helps them do it.Consider one of these options:
- a bounded retention policy for automatic writes only, such as the last N backups per mirror;
- a short diagnostic when the backup count passes a threshold;
- a documented clean-up command.
Keep manual
syncandinitbackups unconditional.🤖 Prompt for AI Agents

🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win
Sort the mirror file list so the selection order is fixed.
readdirSync does not return names in a fixed order. The order depends on the filesystem:
- APFS returns names sorted.
- ext4 returns names in hash order.
- tmpfs commonly returns the newest entries first.
test/cli-sync-regression.test.ts (lines 55–71) answers "1" and expects cloud-synthetic-project.json to be selected, with zz-duplicate.json left unchanged. On a Linux runner with /tmp on tmpfs or ext4, files[0] can be zz-duplicate.json. The assertion at line 64 then fails, so the test is flaky across platforms.
Sorting the list makes the test deterministic. It also gives operators a stable prompt order between runs.

Handle a missing Bun executable before parsing child output.
This test invokes bun directly, but the test command is vitest run and the repository does not declare Bun as the test runtime. If Bun is unavailable, spawnSync returns an error and child.stdout is empty. JSON.parse(child.stdout) then throws a secondary SyntaxError, which hides the actual environment failure.
Check child.error before parsing, or skip the test with a clear message when Bun is unavailable.

Disable persisted checkout credentials in all three jobs.
actions/checkout@v4 defaults persist-credentials to true, which enables later authenticated Git commands. (github.com) The test and audit jobs run commands after checkout, so pull-request code can access the read-only token through Git. The Gitleaks job still requires its explicit GITHUB_TOKEN; disabling persistence does not remove that token.
The initial checkout and the Gitleaks fetch-depth: 0 operation remain supported. The issue is a minor security hardening concern, not a major security defect.

Upgrade Gitleaks to v3.
gitleaks/gitleaks-action@v2 requires Node 20. The maintainer schedule states that GitHub-hosted runners removed Node 20 on September 16, 2026. The step can therefore fail on ubuntu-latest as of October 8, 2026. The temporary fallback is not configured here and does not restore Node 20 after removal.
Use v3, which runs on Node 24.
