LisaFPGA Case

A 3D-printable case for the LisaFPGA PCB, designed to fit Rev 3 (the board's first public release).

As the owner of a LisaFPGA, I wanted to protect my new computer with a case. There wasn't one available at the FPGA's initial release, so I fired up Autodesk Fusion and designed a very basic one. It's a box with cutouts for the various ports, plus a lid that lifts off easily for access to the switches, jumpers, and LEDs. The lid has vents above the FPGA for cooling and a grille over the speaker.

I don't claim to be a CAD expert, and I'm sure there are optimizations I could make in the design. Suggestions and improvements are welcome.

Printing

I've printed and verified this case on a Bambu Lab X1 Carbon with a smooth PEI plate.

The .3mf file is laid out and sliced for that printer. Because of the size of the case and the printer's bed limitations, I had to rotate the case and lid at an angle to make them fit. If you have a larger-format printer, orienting and slicing should be much easier — start from the STL files in the stl/ folder.

Supports are required and are already enabled in the .3mf. Beyond that, the slice uses Bambu Studio's stock settings — I selected the filament presets listed above, set supports to automatic, and rotated the parts to fit the plate, with no custom layer height, infill, or temperatures. If you print from the STL files instead, turn supports on in your slicer; the default presets for these filaments should be all you need.

Materials

  • Tray & lid: Bambu Lab PETG HF, Beige
  • Support interface: Bambu Lab Support for PLA/PETG — set as the support/raft interface material for clean support removal.
  • Screws: 4× M3×8 self-tapping screws — fasten the PCB to the four bosses in the tray, which align with the board's mounting holes.
