About me

Dominik Dorn is a freelance software engineer from Vienna, Austria, and a passionate programmer since 1998 — with Java since 2006 and, for the last nine years, an equally deep love for Scala and functional programming. He leads the Vienna JUG (the Java Vienna Meetup) and co-organizes DevFest Vienna.

Over the last 25 years his career has been a rollercoaster: running highly successful online communities, working on Java EE servers, founding and failing an ed-tech startup, holding employed roles across finance, government, education, and automotive, and taking on freelance work in e-commerce, emergency alerting, recruiting, and the energy sector.

Along the way he has stayed close to open source — contributing around the Play Framework and OpenTCK, running the JavaVienna community, and earning an Arctic Code Vault Contributor badge on GitHub — and has been braindumping on his blog since 2007.

In May 2025, the Clawfather himself introduced him to Claude Code, which is now his daily driver for almost everything.
