Follow-up to #1991 after checking the new desktop navbar at real widths.
Text links stay visible much longer. They now sit on the left next to the logo and fill the free space, instead of being centered and hidden entirely below xl (1280px). Links that no longer fit wrap to a clipped second row and drop off one at a time from the end; all four show down to about 900px. Wrapped links are also hidden from keyboard focus.
Open search no longer covers Ask Esie. The search icon moves before Ask Esie, and the open field is drawn in the link area (up to 400px, never wider than that area). The links hide while search is open so none peeks out beside the field, which stays robust to longer translated labels.
Icon-only Write button is centered. Below lg the hidden label's wrapper still took the 8px gap, pushing the icon left.
The navbar spans the full screen width. The 1600px cap is removed from the navbar only, so the menu button and logo sit at the left edge and the account controls at the right edge on wide screens. Page content keeps its own 1600px cap.
Test plan
New spec: the open field renders inside the given anchor, pressing inside it keeps it open, pressing outside closes it
Existing navbar specs, full web suite, lint, typecheck, icon audits
Local browser check at 800, 900, 1024, 1280, 1440, 1920 and 2560px, light and dark, search open and closed: no horizontal scroll, open search never overlaps Ask Esie, links drop off one at a time
Staging: same widths, plus a long-label locale to confirm links drop off cleanly

Improvements
The desktop navigation adapts more flexibly to available space, keeping menu links on one row and hiding links that don’t fit.
The search panel can expand within the navigation area. Clicking inside the panel keeps it open; clicking a menu link closes it.
- Text links sit left next to the logo and fill the free space; links that
no longer fit wrap to a clipped row and drop off one at a time, instead
of the whole menu hiding below xl. Wrapped links are hidden from focus
- Search icon moves before Ask Esie; the open field is drawn in the link
area (capped at its width) and the links hide while it is open, so it
never covers Ask Esie or the icons
- Center the icon-only Write button: below lg the hidden label's wrapper
still took the gap
- Drop the 1600px cap on the navbar so it spans the screen; page content
keeps its own cap
Keep desktop navbar links visible and search clear of Ask Esie
🐞 Bug fix🧪 Tests🕐 20-40 Minutes
AI Description
• Left-align desktop links and hide wrapped links from view and keyboard focus.
• Keep open search within the link area, clear of Ask Esie and account controls.
• Extend the navbar to screen width and center the icon-only Write button.
The following are alternative approaches to this PR:
1. Lift search state into the desktop navbar
➕ Could render the panel directly in the link area without a portal.
➖ Splits search controls across components and requires additional state coordination.
Recommendation: Keep the anchored portal: it places the panel where space is available while preserving search toggle ownership and the existing unanchored behavior. Lifting search state would add coupling without a clear benefit.

• Portals the search panel into a supplied anchor and caps its width to the available area or 400px. Preserves unanchored rendering and treats presses inside the portaled panel as inside search.

• Makes the link menu a single clipped, left-aligned row whose excess links wrap out of view. A ResizeObserver hides wrapped links so keyboard focus cannot land on them.
1. Wrapped navbar links can regress unnoticed✓ Resolved
Description
NavbarTextMenu adds a ResizeObserver path that hides links whose offsetTop moves beyond the
first row, but no test exercises that behavior. The added spec only verifies the portaled search
field and outside-click handling, so resizing, wrapping, and keyboard-focus suppression remain
untested.
The production change introduces a new observer and row-position branch that mutates link
visibility. The only added test covers rendering the search field in its anchor and pointer
handling, not wrapped-link visibility or focus behavior, which fails the requirement for tests
covering each new functional path.
The issue below was found during a code review. Follow the provided context and guidance below and implement a solution
## Issue description
The navbar now dynamically hides links that wrap into the clipped row, but the change does not add a test for this functional path or its keyboard-focus behavior.
## Fix Focus Areas
- apps/web/src/features/shared/navbar/navbar-text-menu.tsx[59-72]
- apps/web/src/specs/features/shared/navbar-text-menu.spec.tsx[1-94]
## Recommended Fix
Add or update a navbar text-menu spec that mocks layout measurements and `ResizeObserver`, verifies links on later rows receive hidden visibility, and confirms links in the first row remain visible and are not removed from keyboard navigation.

2. Language changes leave menu links hidden✓ Resolved
Description
NavbarTextMenu reruns its visibility check only when link destinations change or the menu element
resizes, not when translated labels change width. Switching languages can re-render different labels
in the same fixed-size menu, leaving links that now fit hidden or newly wrapped links
keyboard-focusable.
The synchronization writes inline visibility from each link’s row position, but its dependency key
contains only URLs and its observer watches only the fixed-height menu. Locale selection switches
i18next and closes the sidebar, causing a re-render with labels of different lengths without
necessarily changing either trigger.
The issue below was found during a code review. Follow the provided context and guidance below and implement a solution
## Issue description
Translated labels can change which links wrap without resizing the menu or changing its link destinations, leaving stale visibility styles.
## Fix Focus Areas
- apps/web/src/features/shared/navbar/navbar-text-menu.tsx[58-72]
## Recommended Fix
Rerun the row-position synchronization after rendered label changes as well as menu resizes. Include translated labels in the effect dependencies or otherwise observe child layout changes, and test a language switch at a width where wrapping changes.

3. Resizing can hide the focused menu link✓ Resolved
Description
sync sets a wrapped link’s visibility to hidden without checking whether that link currently
has keyboard focus. If the navbar narrows while a user is focused on a link that moves to the
clipped row, focus remains on a control they can no longer see.
The new synchronization hides every link below the first row solely by offset, while the menu clips
wrapped rows. Its flexible parent can change width without replacing the focused link.
The issue below was found during a code review. Follow the provided context and guidance below and implement a solution
## Issue description
A resize can make the currently focused menu link wrap, after which the visibility synchronization hides it without relocating focus.
## Fix Focus Areas
- apps/web/src/features/shared/navbar/navbar-text-menu.tsx[62-67]
## Recommended Fix
When a link about to be hidden contains the active element, move focus to an appropriate visible navbar control before applying hidden visibility. Cover a width change while keyboard focus is on a trailing menu link.

Tip of the day
💡 Did you know, you can describe a rule in plain language on the Rules page and Qodo drafts it for you
The desktop navbar now places the search panel in a flexible anchor beside its text links. The text menu clips to one row and hides links that wrap or overlap an open search panel. The search toggle supports portal rendering and checks both the navbar slot and panel for outside-pointer interactions.
The navbar places the text menu and search toggle in a flexible anchor. The menu clips to one row and observes size changes to hide links that wrap. The stylesheet hides menu links when the search panel is visible.
The search toggle can portal its panel into the anchor and treats the panel as inside during outside-pointer checks. The test covers interaction with the anchored input and a menu link.

Which links wrap to the clipped row also changes when a link's width does
(web font loaded, label translated), not only when the menu resizes, so
observe each link as well as the menu. If the focused link gets clipped,
move focus to the last visible link instead of leaving it on a hidden one.
Add specs for the clipped-row behaviour: every link is observed, clipped
links hide and come back once they fit, and focus moves off a clipped link.
