Show the 00:00 UTC reset on the day leaderboard and the free spin (#1844) - #1998
The day leaderboard, its quests checkmark, the daily quests and the free spin now all reset at 00:00 UTC. The page didn't say so, so a short board after midnight or a missing checkmark looked like a bug.
What changes
Day leaderboard: a line under the title, "Today (UTC), resets in 5h 12m". It counts down to the next 00:00 UTC, updates every minute, and shows on the day period only.
It renders in the browser only: the server HTML can be served later from a cache, so it carries no time.
When the UTC day changes while the page is open, the board reloads.
Coming back to the day board from week or month reloads it. The label was not on screen to see a midnight in between.
Fresh board on return: the board query uses refetchOnMount: "always", so returning to Discover in the same tab refetches the board instead of showing an earlier copy.
Free spin: "Resets daily at 00:00 UTC" next to the spin countdown, in the spin dialog footer. At 00:00 UTC the spin status reloads, so a dialog left open across midnight offers the new spin instead of still showing none left. The countdown reads the same query.
Shared clock:useUtcClock(onDayChange) in core/hooks drives both the label and the spin reload. It ticks on every UTC minute boundary, so the reset is seen at 00:00:00 however far into a minute the page opened. It calls back once when the UTC day changes, and returns null until mounted.
Strings: two new en-US strings (leaderboard.day-resets-in, perks.spin-resets-utc). Other locales follow through Crowdin.
The backend parts are live: the free spin resets at 00:00 UTC, and the day board covers the UTC day.
Tests (written first)
apps/web, vitest run <spec>.
Red on 53d847c (specs plus a stub component returning null):
the same assertion for: the last part minute rounding up, a full day at the reset, and the viewer's time zone not mattering
the label not found
the label not updating after an hour
src/specs/app/discover/leaderboard-page.spec.tsx:

src/specs/app/perks/perks-points-spin-banner.spec.tsx: Unable to find an element with the text: perks.spin-resets-utc
Red after review round 1 (on its own spec commit):
puts no time in the server HTML: expected '<div class="text-xs opacity-50">leade…' not to contain 'leaderboard.day-resets-in'
tells the page once when the UTC day changes: expected "vi.fn()" to be called 1 times, but got 0 times
loads the new day board when the UTC day changes while the page is open: expected "vi.fn()" to be called 2 times, but got 1 times
Red after review round 2:
reloads the spin status at 00:00 UTC, when the free spin resets (perks-points-spin-banner.spec.tsx): expected "vi.fn()" to be called 1 times, but got 0 times
leaderboard-page.spec.tsx now builds its keys from the real QueryKeys and types its test doubles. That is a test-only change and stays green.
Red after review round 3:
fires the day change at 00:00:00 UTC, not up to a minute later (label opened at 23:59:30): expected "vi.fn()" to be called 1 times, but got 0 times
reloads the spin status at 00:00 UTC, opened at 23:59:30: the same assertion
loads the new day board right at 00:00 UTC while the page is open: expected "vi.fn()" to be called 2 times, but got 1 times
reloads the day board when coming back to it from another period: expected [ [ 'day' ] ] to have a length of 2 but got 1
The page specs now render the real DayResetLabel on a fixed clock. They check the countdown text on the day board and its absence on week and month.
The week and month boards showing no label are pinned. Those specs pass from the start.
Show UTC daily resets and refresh the day leaderboard
✨ Enhancement🐞 Bug fix🧪 Tests🕐 20-40 Minutes
AI Description
• Show a browser-only countdown to the day leaderboard’s 00:00 UTC reset.
• Refresh the leaderboard on return and when the UTC day changes, preventing stale results.
• Clarify the free spin’s reset time and test the countdown and refresh behavior.
Keep the reset countdown client-side so cached server HTML contains no stale time, and scope forced refetching to the leaderboard query. A shared reset scheduler or app-wide cache policy would add complexity for this localized behavior.

day-reset-label.tsxAdd a client-side UTC reset countdown+59/-0
Add a client-side UTC reset countdown
• Calculates minutes until the next 00:00 UTC, rounding partial minutes up, and updates the label every minute. Renders no time in server HTML and notifies its parent when the UTC day changes.
page.tsxShow the day reset label and refresh leaderboard data+12/-3
Show the day reset label and refresh leaderboard data
• Displays the reset label only for the day period and refetches the board when the label reports a new UTC day. Forces a refetch on mount so returning to Discover does not rely on an older cached board.
day-reset-label.spec.tsxTest UTC countdown and day-change behavior+86/-0
Test UTC countdown and day-change behavior
• Covers countdown arithmetic, minute rounding, time-zone independence, client updates, and omission of time from server HTML. Verifies that crossing midnight notifies the page once.
leaderboard-page.spec.tsxTest day-only labeling and leaderboard refreshes+105/-0
Test day-only labeling and leaderboard refreshes
• Verifies that the label appears only on the day board. Checks refetching both when a cached board is mounted and when the UTC day changes while the page remains open.
leaderboard-page.spec.tsx hardcodes the leaderboard query key in both the mocked query options and
setQueryData instead of using the shared QueryKeys builder. The test therefore duplicates the
cache-key structure in two changed paths that can drift from the SDK definition.
The changed spec constructs a hardcoded leaderboard key for the mocked query options and separately
passes another hardcoded key to setQueryData; the repository provides
QueryKeys.analytics.discoverLeaderboard(...) for this query.
The issue below was found during a code review. Follow the provided context and guidance below and implement a solution
## Issue description
The leaderboard spec hardcodes the React Query key instead of using the shared `QueryKeys` constant from `@ecency/sdk`.

- apps/web/src/specs/app/discover/leaderboard-page.spec.tsx[54-54]
- apps/web/src/specs/app/discover/leaderboard-page.spec.tsx[93-93]
## Recommended Fix
Import `QueryKeys` from `@ecency/sdk` and replace both `['analytics', 'discover-leaderboard', duration]` and `['analytics', 'discover-leaderboard', 'day']` with `QueryKeys.analytics.discoverLeaderboard(duration)` and `QueryKeys.analytics.discoverLeaderboard('day')` respectively.

2. Leaderboard tests add untyped test doubles✓ Resolved
Description
leaderboard-page.spec.tsx introduces any annotations for the query client, query function,
mocked component props, and configuration wrapper props. These new test declarations weaken type
checking across the mock setup and violate the repository's ban on newly added explicit any types.
The changed TypeScript spec adds explicit any annotations to hoisted state and multiple mock
component parameters, including the lines used as the diff pointer.
The issue below was found during a code review. Follow the provided context and guidance below and implement a solution
## Issue description
The new leaderboard spec uses explicit `any` annotations in its hoisted mock state and mocked component props.
## Fix Focus Areas
- apps/web/src/specs/app/discover/leaderboard-page.spec.tsx[8-10]
- apps/web/src/specs/app/discover/leaderboard-page.spec.tsx[13-22]
- apps/web/src/specs/app/discover/leaderboard-page.spec.tsx[39-40]
## Recommended Fix
Replace each explicit `any` with concrete React props, `QueryClient`, and query-function types. Use `unknown` or narrowly typed interfaces where a mock intentionally accepts arbitrary children or props, and avoid `as any`-style escapes.

Explanation
Issue #1844 has coding requirements. DayResetLabel renders only for period === "day", computes the next 00:00 UTC reset, rounds partial minutes up, updates every minute, and calls refetch after a UTC day change. The leaderboard query uses refetchOnMount: "always". The spin dialog renders perks.spin-resets-utc, and en-US contains the two required strings. The added tests cover the fixed-clock countdown, server output, day-only rendering, mount refetch, UTC day change, and spin footer.

Schedule the tick at the UTC minute boundary.
If the label mounts at 23:59:30 UTC, this interval does not detect the new day until 00:00:30 UTC. The day leaderboard can show the previous day’s results for 30 seconds after reset. Schedule the next tick for the next UTC minute boundary instead of 60 seconds after mount. (developer.mozilla.org)
