Protocol Specification

Mawuli Adzaku edited this page Apr 18, 2014 · 5 revisions

This document details the communication protocol used between eDFS clients and the server. The specification is based on the Binary Erlang Term ( BERT ) protocol as documented at http://bert-rpc.org/.

ERRORS

These are a list of error types:

  • EACCESS Permission to read or search a component of the file name was denied.

  • EEXIST There is already a file named newname. If you want to replace this link with a new link, you must remove the old link explicitly first.

  • EPERM Some implementations only allow privileged users to make links to directories, and others prohibit this operation entirely. This error is used to report the problem.

  • EROFS (read-only filesystem) The directory containing the new link can't be modified because it's on a read-only file system.

  • EIO A hardware error occurred while reading or writing data on the disk.

  • ENOTEMPTY The directory to be deleted is not empty.

  • EISDIR File operation can not performed because target is a directory

  • EBADF Bad file descriptor. Can be used for dead file processes

Commands

Besides commands such as PING(for checking connectivity), all other commands are prefixed with either AUTH FILE, or DIR to indicate the scope of the command.

  1. PING -> +PONG

  2. AUTH password

  3. FILE

  4. DIR
