Research Wheel is designed as a local-first browser extension.
The extension operates locally on your device and does not use external servers for its core workspace functionality.
No tracking. No analytics. No collection of your browsing activity.
The project is also open source, allowing you to inspect how the extension works yourself.
Your research should belong to you.
Webpages aren't always clean.
Article titles can contain:
- Site names
- Taglines
- Publisher branding
- Inconsistent capitalization
- Unusual apostrophes
- Incorrect metadata
- Messy author information
Research Wheel includes several systems designed to clean and normalize this information before it reaches your research workspace or citation output.
Preserves important names, organizations, locations, acronyms, and other proper nouns while formatting article titles.
Removes common publisher suffixes and branding from scraped webpage titles.
Detects root and localized homepages to improve source metadata and publisher identification.
These systems exist for one reason:
Cleaner research results and more useful citations.
Research Wheel is built for Mozilla Firefox using the WebExtensions API and Manifest V3.
The extension includes several systems designed specifically around Firefox's interaction behavior.
Middle-click interactions are handled without unnecessarily interfering with Firefox's native autoscroll behavior.
Research Wheel captures text selection during mouse interaction so that selected text remains available when the radial menu opens.
While the radial wheel is active, relevant scrolling and keyboard interactions are temporarily controlled to prevent accidental page movement.
The radial interface uses isolation techniques to reduce conflicts with webpage styles.
