Land in the Earth System

Introducing global patterns, processes, and underlying principles for how climate shapes the terrestrial biosphere and how land feeds back to Earth system dynamics.

This contains the book that serves as lecture notes for the course Land in the Earth System 1 and 2.

The R environment is managed by renv. With R 4.6.1 installed, restore the locked packages from the repository root before rendering:

R -q -e 'renv::restore()'

To preview a chapter from the repository root:

quarto preview book/biogeography.qmd

Previewing from inside book/ also loads the repository's renv environment through book/.Rprofile. Restart existing R sessions after restoring or updating packages.

To render the book as website, do:

quarto render book

To publish the book, do:

quarto publish gh-pages book
