🟡 Medium - Flattened plural exports suppress local translations during push
withoutSettled treats an exported entry as fully settled whenever its msgstr array is nonempty and every returned form is nonempty, without checking that the export contains all plural forms held by the repository. When a plural export is flattened to one msgstr, this branch deletes the repository entry entirely, so pushTranslations omits the repository's remaining plural forms instead of uploading them. The sync layer already explicitly supports flattened exports when pulling, making this a reachable data-loss/correctness path rather than an invalid-input case.

There was a problem hiding this comment.
🔵 Low - Concurrent uploads bypass the shared pacing delay
uploadForm uses one boolean and an independent sleep, so multiple public upload calls that start before the first delay completes all observe uploaded === true, wait the same paced interval, and then send simultaneously. For example, Promise.all over two uploadTranslations calls creates a burst rather than the documented spacing, which can trigger POEditor rate refusals and leave one or more translation updates failed. The sequential sync loop does not prevent consumers from reaching this path through the exported platform object.
Show fix
Serialize uploads through a promise queue or otherwise chain each call's delay and request behind the previous upload (including its retry) so concurrent callers cannot share one delay window.

🟡 Medium - Any writer can trigger an OIDC-backed npm publication from an arbitrary tag
The new release workflow grants id-token: write and publishes the checked-out commit for every gottext/v* tag, but it does not require the tag to point at a protected release branch or an approved environment. The version check only compares the tag suffix with that arbitrary commit's package.json, so a write-capable actor can tag a branch containing modified package code and cause the privileged job to install and publish it. This expands npm publishing authority beyond an explicitly reviewed release commit.
Show fix
Restrict publication to an approved protected environment and verify that the tag resolves to an allowed release commit/branch (or use a release event requiring approval); keep the OIDC permission scoped to that gated job.

🟡 Medium - Peer-qualified pnpm lockfile entries are omitted from resolvedVersions
The lockfile parser requires a package key to end immediately after a version that contains no @, but pnpm 9 lockfiles encode peer-qualified entries such as @eslint-community/eslint-utils@4.10.1(eslint@...). Those entries do not match the regex, so resolvedVersions can return no versions or miss copies for packages whose resolution keys include peers, defeating callers' duplicate-resolution/module-state gate. The failure is in the public build helper and is independent of whether the current lockfile happens to need that particular package check.

Rejected catalog loads commit the display locale
rememberLocale(locale) runs before the catalog loaders have succeeded. If any loader rejects, Promise.all skips the installation loop, but display locale and date formatting have already moved to the requested locale. The reproduction changed the display from en-US/7/30/2026 to de-DE/30.7.2026 while the translation remained source text and the successful catalog was not installed. Commit the locale only after every loader succeeds and catalogs are installed, or restore the prior locale when loading fails.

Older locale loads overwrite newer catalogs
Overlapping startLocale calls install their loaded catalogs unconditionally. When a newer fr-FR request completes before an older de-DE request, the older request later overwrites the catalog even though the remembered display locale remains fr-FR. The deterministic reproduction observed fr-FR display text translated as Nouveau, then fr-FR display text translated as the stale German Alt after the older loader completed. Ignore superseded starts or serialize locale transitions before calling setLocaleData.
Artifacts
Authored deterministic locale-race reproduction source
- Captures the Vitest test that releases the newer French catalog before the older German catalog, proving the intended interleaving.
Observed locale-race reproduction output
- Shows `fr-FR/Nouveau` before the old loader completes and `fr-FR/Alt` afterward, confirming stale catalog installation.

npm trusted publishing npm 11.5.1 Node 22 exact version requirement
💡 Result:
To utilize the trusted publishing feature in npm, you must meet specific version requirements for both the npm CLI and Node.js. Official documentation explicitly states that trusted publishing requires npm CLI version 11.5.1 or later and Node.js version 22.14.0 or higher [1]. Trusted publishing allows developers to publish packages to the npm registry directly from CI/CD workflows using OpenID Connect (OIDC) authentication, removing the need for long-lived access tokens [1][2]. When this feature is used, npm automatically generates provenance attestations for the published packages [3][2]. If you are currently using npm 11.5.1, please ensure your environment is running Node.js 22.14.0 or a newer release to satisfy the technical requirements for this security feature [1].

pnpm/action-setup v6 packageManager no pnpm version is specified package.json working-directory version input
💡 Result:
In pnpm/action-setup v6, the error "No pnpm version is specified" typically occurs because the action no longer includes an implicit default pnpm version [1]. You must explicitly provide a version or ensure the action can correctly detect one from your configuration [2][1]. Version Resolution To resolve this, you can: 1. Explicitly set the version input in your workflow step (e.g., version: 9.12.0) [1]. 2. Define the pnpm version in your package.json using the packageManager field (e.g., "packageManager": "pnpm@9.12.0") or the devEngines.packageManager.version field [2][3]. Working Directory and packageManager The action supports a package_json_file input (default: package.json) to locate the file containing your pnpm version configuration [2][4]. If you are using a workspace or a project where the package.json is in a subdirectory, ensure you set this input correctly so the action can read the packageManager field [2]. Known Issues and Workarounds Some users experienced issues in earlier v6 releases where the action failed to correctly read the version from package.json or apply it properly due to path precedence or resolution bugs [5][6]. If you encounter these: - Ensure you are using the latest version of pnpm/action-setup [3][6]. - If the action still fails to pick up the version, you can manually extract the version from your package.json using a tool like jq and pass it to the version input as a workaround [5][7]: - name: Read pnpm version id: pnpm-version run: echo "version=$(jq --raw-output '.packageManager | split("@")[5]' package.json)" >> "$GITHUB_OUTPUT" - uses: pnpm/action-setup@v6 with: version: ${{ steps.pnpm-version.outputs.version }} Note that pnpm/action-setup v6 is designed to work with pnpm v11+. If you need to use older versions, keep the version input explicit [2][4].

gettext-parser 9.1.1 GitHub parser translations Object.create source
💡 Result:
The gettext-parser library (version 9.1.1) is a Node.js package used to parse and compile gettext PO and MO files [1][2]. The library is maintained at https://github.com/smhg/gettext-parser [1][2]. Regarding your query about Object.create and translation parsing, gettext-parser typically produces a structured JSON-like object representing the PO/MO file contents [3][4]. The resulting object contains a translations property, which is a record of context objects (keyed by msgctxt, with the default context under "") [3][4]. Each context object then contains translation entries keyed by msgid [3][4]. While the library's internal implementation logic (which can be examined in its GitHub repository) may utilize standard JavaScript patterns for object initialization—such as Object.create(null) to ensure clean dictionary objects without prototype pollution—it is not exposed as a public API or a specific "parser translations Object.create" feature for users [1][3]. Users interact with the library primarily through the po.parse, po.compile, mo.parse, and mo.compile methods, which return or accept plain JavaScript translation objects [5][3][4]. For technical details, you can inspect the library's source code on GitHub at https://github.com/smhg/gettext-parser [1][3]. The library's core structure and interface definitions are also documented in the @types/gettext-parser package on DefinitelyTyped [6][4].

Guard the context lookup in restoring against inherited members.
gettext-parser@9.1.1 creates translations and contexts as normal objects. If the incoming catalogue omits msgctxt "constructor", held.translations.constructor resolves to Object. ??= does not assign, so line 203 writes the entry to the shared Object constructor. The entry is then absent from the compiled catalogue.
Use Object.hasOwn(held.translations, context) before creating the context. Add a test for msgctxt "constructor". The lookups in keepingAnswers and withoutSettled already pass the result through ownEntry and do not cause this mutation.

For @wordpress/i18n version 6.26.0, which API clears registered locale data for one domain, and does setLocaleData({}, domain) replace the prior domain catalogue?
💡 Result:
In @wordpress/i18n version 6.26.0, the API used to clear or reset locale data is resetLocaleData [1][2]. Unlike setLocaleData, which merges data [1][3], resetLocaleData clears all current Tannin instance locale data and replaces it with the specified locale data for the provided domain [1][4]. Regarding the second part of your question: calling setLocaleData({}, domain) does not necessarily clear the prior domain catalogue in the way a reset would. Because setLocaleData is designed to merge data [1][3], passing an empty object will not remove existing keys or reset the domain configuration to a clean state; instead, it often leads to the existing data being overwritten or partially clobbered depending on how the merge is handled [5][6]. If your goal is to clear or reset the state, you should use resetLocaleData [4].

@wordpress/i18n 6.26.0 resetLocaleData implementation domain setLocaleData source
💡 Result:
In the @wordpress/i18n package, resetLocaleData and setLocaleData serve distinct purposes regarding the management of locale data within a Tannin instance [1][2]. resetLocaleData The resetLocaleData method completely clears the existing locale data managed by the Tannin instance and initializes it with the new data provided [1][3]. It is specifically designed for scenarios where you need to overwrite the current state rather than update it incrementally [2]. Parameters: data [LocaleData]: The locale data configuration in a Jed-formatted JSON object shape [1][4]. domain [string | undefined]: The domain for which the new configuration should apply [1][5]. setLocaleData In contrast, setLocaleData is used to merge new locale data into the existing Tannin instance by domain [6]. It preserves any data already loaded for the specified domain (or global scope) that is not overwritten by the new input [2]. Parameters: data [LocaleData]: The locale data configuration in a Jed-formatted JSON object shape [1][6]. domain [string | undefined]: The domain for which the configuration applies [1][3]. When using these methods, the domain parameter determines the scope of the operation. If omitted, the default domain is typically used [1][2]. Both methods require the data to be in the Jed JSON format [1][6].

Clear stale locale data when no catalogue is loaded.
When entry.load(locale) returns undefined, the loop skips that domain. When locale === options.defaultLocale, the function returns before processing any domain. The previous catalogue therefore remains in @wordpress/i18n, while rememberLocale reports the new locale and __() can return the previous translation.
Clear each configured domain that has no retained catalogue, including the default-locale path. Do not use setLocaleData({}, domain), because setLocaleData merges data and does not remove existing entries. Add a regression for both paths.

@wordpress/i18n sprintf named placeholders zero padding width %(held)05.2f implementation
💡 Result:
The @wordpress/i18n package does not support the Python-style named placeholder syntax %(held)05.2f [1][2][3]. In WordPress development, both the PHP sprintf function and the JavaScript @wordpress/i18n sprintf implementation support only the standard positional argument syntax (e.g., %d, %s) or numbered argument swapping (e.g., %1$d) [4][5][6]. Key points regarding this implementation: 1. Named Placeholders: WordPress has explicitly moved away from named arguments in sprintf to maintain consistency between its PHP and JavaScript environments, as the core PHP sprintf function does not support named placeholders [7]. 2. Standard Syntax: To achieve zero padding and precision formatting, you must use the standard format: %[argnum$][flags][width][.precision]specifier [6][8]. - For a float with zero padding and a specific width/precision, the correct syntax is %05.2f [6][9]. - If you need to specify a particular argument position, use the numbered syntax: %1$05.2f [10][6]. 3. Recommendation: If you require a value to be injected into a string with padding and precision, use the numbered placeholder approach: - PHP/JS: sprintf( '%1$05.2f', $held ); Attempts to use %(name)s syntax in WordPress core or official packages will not function as expected and are generally discouraged to avoid confusion for translators and to ensure cross-environment compatibility [4][7].

@tannin/sprintf 1.3.3 source named placeholder %(name) implementation
💡 Result:
In @tannin/sprintf version 1.3.3, named placeholders—represented as %(name)s—are fully supported for string interpolation [1][2]. When using named placeholders, the library expects an object as the second argument, where the keys correspond to the names defined within the parentheses of the format string [1][2]. Example usage: import sprintf from '@tannin/sprintf'; sprintf('Hello %(place)s! From %(name)s.', { place: 'world', name: 'Andrew' }); // ⇒ 'Hello world! From Andrew.' The implementation of named argument support is part of the package's minimal printf format string formatter logic, which is designed to handle positional indexes, named arguments, precision/maximum width, and specific types (f, d, s, and %) [1][2]. The source code for this functionality is located within the package's repository under packages/sprintf/src/index.js [3]. As of the version 1.3.3 release, the library explicitly handles these named placeholders by parsing the object provided in the argument list [1].

When using this syntax, a dictionary is typically passed to the string, and held is the key used to look up the value to be formatted [2][1]. 2. 05.2f: This is a standard printf-style format specifier used to format a floating-point number [3][4]: - 0: A flag indicating that the output should be padded with leading zeros rather than spaces if the value is shorter than the specified width [5][2][6]. - 5: The minimum field width, meaning the entire output string (including the decimal point and digits) will be at least 5 characters long [5][7][6]. -.2: The precision, specifying that exactly 2 digits should be displayed after the decimal point [5][6][4]. - f: The conversion type, indicating that the value should be treated as a fixed-point floating-point number [3][4]. In summary, the entire expression tells Python to take the value associated with the key held in a provided dictionary, format it as a floating-point number with two decimal places, and ensure the total length is at least 5 characters, padding with leading zeros if necessary [2][1][3]. For example, if held is 3.4, the result would be 03.40 [2][6].

Move vi.unstubAllGlobals() into a teardown hook.
The unstub call runs in the test body. If the assertion at Line 488 fails, the call is skipped and the stubbed fetch stays installed for the rest of the file. Later tests pass an explicit fetched, so results do not change, but a leaked global stub hides regressions in the default-fetch path.

- Bug
- A focused Vitest reproduction resolved es-ES, returned one catalog, and rejected a second loader. The call rejected after rememberLocalelocale had already set the display locale, so formatting switched to es-ES while catalog installation was skipped. This confirms that a failed catalog load leaves the interface partially switched.
- Cause
- T-Rex reproduced this while running the changed behavior, but it did not return a separate root-cause sentence.
- Fix
- Update the changed code so this failing path is handled, then rerun the same T-Rex check to confirm it passes.
Artifacts
Focused locale rejection reproduction source
- Authored Vitest test resolves es-ES, returns one catalog, rejects another loader, and asserts display locale, date formatting, and absent catalog installation.
Focused locale rejection reproduction output
- Executed focused reproduction with Vitest; the test passed, confirming the rejected load still commits es-ES display locale and leaves the successful catalog uninstalled.
Existing runtime and display test output
- Executed the existing runtime and display suites; 13 tests passed.

After the older load completed, the active domain returned OLDERES instead of the newer request's NEWERFR. This confirms that the older invocation can overwrite a newer locale's catalog.
- Cause
- T-Rex reproduced this while running the changed behavior, but it did not return a separate root-cause sentence.
- Fix
- Update the changed code so this failing path is handled, then rerun the same T-Rex check to confirm it passes.
Artifacts
Deferred overlap reproduction test source
- Focused Vitest source starts es-ES and fr-FR concurrently, releases fr-FR first, then releases es-ES, and checks distinct translations after each completion.
Deferred overlap reproduction output
- Executed from `/home/user/repo/gottext` with Vitest; the final assertion failed with received `OLDER_ES` instead of expected `NEWER_FR`, proving the older load overwrote the newer catalog.

Rejected catalog loads commit locale formatting
startLocale calls rememberLocale(locale) before every catalog loader has fulfilled. If any loader rejects, Promise.all exits before the installation loop, leaving display locale and date formatting changed while catalogs from successful loaders were never installed. Commit the locale only after all catalogs are installed, or restore the prior locale when loading fails.
Artifacts
Fulfilled catalog-loader baseline output
- Ran the focused Vitest harness with one fulfilled German catalog loader; it shows the locale, date formatting, and translation all change together.
Rejected catalog-loader reproduction output
- Ran the focused Vitest harness with one fulfilled loader and one rejecting loader; it shows changed German locale/date formatting but untranslated catalog text, proving inconsistent committed state.
Current startLocale and display formatter source with line numbers
- Captured the current implementation showing locale mutation at start.ts line 38 before Promise.all at line 42 and catalog installation at lines 43-48, plus the formatter consuming the stored locale.
Focused rejected-loader Vitest harness source
- Captured the generated focused runtime harness that invokes the current implementation with fulfilled and rejected loader scenarios.
Runtime regression suite with rejected-loader harness
- Ran existing runtime tests and the focused harness together; all 10 tests passed while the harness recorded the reproduced inconsistent rejection state.

Stale locale loads overwrite current catalogs
Each startLocale invocation installs its loaded catalogs unconditionally after its own loaders finish. When an older request finishes after a newer request, it can replace the newer catalog despite the display locale still identifying the newer locale. Track the active request or cancel superseded requests before calling setLocaleData.
Artifacts
Deterministic overlap test source
- Focused Vitest source defers the older Spanish loader until after the newer French loader completes, then checks the final locale and translation; it deterministically exercises the race.
Baseline locale catalog test output
- Captured output of the single newer French locale test, which passed and establishes that its catalog normally installs correctly.
Delayed older loader overlap test output
- Captured output of the controlled overlap test, which passed after observing French as the current locale with the older Spanish translation installed; it proves the stale overwrite.
Combined focused overlap harness output
- Captured output of both deterministic focused tests in one Vitest invocation; both passed, confirming baseline behavior and the stale-overwrite condition.

Closes #4
What
The gettext brick moves in under gottext/, byte identical to its released 0.3.0 tree except for two things: the repository field in package.json now names this repository with its directory, and the nested workflow files are gone because workflows only run from the repository root. The shared ci workflow gains a node job running the same gates the standalone repository ran, and publish-gottext.yml publishes to npm on gottext prefixed tags with the version check adjusted for the prefix.
Why
The framework is the home for self contained bricks, and this one is stable at 0.3.0 with no open work. The npm name stays @gopherium/gottext, so consumers notice nothing.
Testing
All of it was run under Node 22 in the new location before this pull request. Eight test files pass and all four package entries load.
Summary by CodeRabbit
gottextpackage for locale-aware runtime translations, date formatting, catalogue loading, and localized error messages.
