Closes #62
Closes #63
Closes #71

What

  • useListRun focuses the list after a run moved an item only while the focus sits on the page, in the list or in the dialog the run started in, or in no dialog once that dialog closed. A dialog opened during any list run keeps the focus. focusInDialog reports whether a dialog holds the focus.
  • useCloseWhileOpen closes a dialog only while it is still the one open, and RunConfirm uses it, so a run that ends late never closes a dialog opened since.
  • useFocusBack puts the focus back on what opened a list dialog (the title, the media, the phone row or the actions menu) once the list is drawn again, in grid, list and table layouts. It falls back to the actions menu, then to the list region.
  • openOnTap lives in a module free of the router, and the main entry hands out the list view types.

Why

Each app wrote its own copy of these, and a list drawn as a table had no way to put the focus back on its rows.

Testing Instructions

Run the testing toolchain.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features
    • On phone layouts, tapping a row opens its record without changing the selection.
    • Added focus restoration to return focus to list items or the list after dialogs and actions.
    • Published additional list-view, dialog, and focus utilities through the main entry point.
  • Bug Fixes
    • Completing an action no longer closes a different dialog opened while it was running.
    • List actions better preserve focus in dialogs and controls when appropriate.
  • Documentation
    • Expanded guidance and examples for list focus, dialog closing, and the available utilities.

Walkthrough

The PR adds guarded dialog closing, updates focus handling after list runs, adds focus restoration for list items, and exposes list-view utilities and types through package entry points.

Changes: List dialog and focus behavior

Layer / File(s) Summary
Guard dialog closing
src/close-while-open.ts, src/run-confirm.tsx, src/index.ts, test/close-while-open.test.tsx, test/run-confirm.test.tsx, docs/lists.md, CHANGELOG.md
useCloseWhileOpen invokes the optional close callback only while its component remains mounted. RunConfirm uses it after a run settles. Tests cover unmounting and a replacement dialog opened while a run is pending.
Scope focus changes after list runs
src/list-run.ts, test/list-run.test.tsx, test/bulk-run.test.tsx, src/index.ts, docs/lists.md, CHANGELOG.md
useListRun tracks the starting dialog and focuses the list after a moved run only when focus remains in an eligible location. Tests cover focus changes during runs, stale runs, and listener cleanup.
Restore focus to list items
src/focus-back.ts, src/index.ts, test/focus-back.test.tsx, docs/lists.md, docs/screens.md, docs/design-system/accessibility.md
useFocusBack records an item and trigger, waits while the list is busy, and restores focus after page focus is lost. It falls back to the item actions trigger or list region and tracks replacement elements.
Expose list-view utilities
src/open-on-tap.ts, src/list-view.ts, src/index.ts, test/open-on-tap.test.ts, test/entries.test.ts, README.md, docs/overview.md, docs/lists.md
The package entries expose openOnTap and list-view types. On phone layouts, openOnTap opens the first selected ID when present; on wide layouts, it returns the existing selection handler.

Full details: Title check

Explanation

The title "feat: Share the dialog close and focus hooks every list needs" matches the main change. The PR adds the shared useCloseWhileOpen and useFocusBack hooks, focusInDialog, and the useListRun focus handling, and it also moves openOnTap and exports list view types. The title is specific and describes the primary change. It does not list every detail, which is expected.

Full details: Linked Issues check

Explanation

[#62] useListRun records the starting dialog and limits focus restoration to the page body, list region, starting dialog, or the element that received focus when that dialog closed. focusInDialog detects dialog focus. test/list-run.test.tsx covers page, list, dialog, replaced-dialog, stale-run, and cleanup cases. [#63] useCloseWhileOpen calls closeModal only while the dialog body remains mounted. RunConfirm uses the hook, and the hook is exported. test/run-confirm.test.tsx verifies that an edit dialog opened during a held confirm run remains open. [#71] useFocusBack supports grid, list, and table holders. It restores the title, media, phone-row, or actions trigger, then falls back to the actions menu or list region. It handles bulk focus and redraws. test/focus-back.test.tsx covers the three layouts and fallback behavior.

Full details: Docstring Coverage

Explanation

Docstring coverage is 100.00% which is sufficient. The required threshold is 80.00%. Docstring coverage is scoped to functions touched by this diff. Analyzed 44 functions across 14 files. (3 skipped: 3 unsupported.)

Full details: Out of Scope Changes check

Explanation

The new src/open-on-tap.ts module, the openOnTap re-export, and the list-view type exports from src/index.ts do not implement or support #62, #63, or #71. Their tests and related documentation are also outside those issue objectives. The current PR description includes these API changes, but no linked issue requires them.

Resolution

Remove the openOnTap module move, its tests and documentation, and the unrelated list-view type exports and tests. Alternatively, link an active issue that requires these API changes and explain their connection to this PR.

RetriggerView in GreptileConfidence Score: 5/5

[Medium impact] No blocking issues were identified in the reviewed changes.

Summary

Shares dialog-close and list-focus helpers through the main entry.

  • List runs move focus back only while the reader is still with the run.
  • List dialogs can return focus to the item trigger that opened them.
  • A late action can close only the dialog that started it.
  • List screens can use shared list tools without importing the router.

No new actionable issues were found. The testing toolchain was not run as part of this review.

Focus the list region when the item leaves the list.

When the watched trigger is removed and holderOf(list, asked.id) returns null, keepFocusOn stops watching and returns without focusing list. A later redraw can therefore leave focus on document.body. This violates the #71 fallback contract.

Suggested fix
 		if (holderOf(list, asked.id) === null) {
 			stop()
+			list.focus()
 			return
 		}
