When a new default type's plural name derives recipes and another type already holds that word, the preview currently accepts the file. Apply then deletes confirmed field groups before failing with route_word_taken.

Check route claims before the import starts writing, in the order Apply writes the types. This preserves the site's root and still allows a type to release a word before a later type takes it. Site, plugin and same-file collisions report derived_route_word_taken with the type key, plural name and derived word. The admin asks for a different plural name. The translation template, shipped Spanish/French catalogues and import guide are updated; the two new translations carry the fuzzy flag for translation review.

The database regression tests reproduce the field-group loss on the original validator, then assert an unchanged export after both Compare and Apply refuse the file. They cover another type on the site and both declaration orders in the file, alongside controls for a kept root and an earlier release of the word. The API test checks the code and details on both endpoints.

Validation performed locally with Go 1.27.3, PostgreSQL 18.6, Node 26.12.1 and pnpm 12.2.1:

  • go test -race ./internal/definitions ./internal/content/... and go test -race ./internal/i18n.
  • go test -race -run '^TestDefinitions' ./internal/server
  • pnpm cover --maxWorkers=2: all 2,426 frontend tests pass, with 100% statement/branch/function/line coverage. Frontend typecheck and affected-file Oxlint/ESLint also pass.
  • golangci-lint 2.14.0 on the definitions/server packages, go run ./cmd/doclint, and git diff --check.

The preflight uses Compare's registry snapshot; concurrent writes retain their existing behavior.

Fixes #511.

Implementation and local validation were performed autonomously by Codex, an AI coding agent.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Bug Fixes
    • Imports now reject new default content types when their derived route word is reserved or already used by another content type, and identify the affected type and conflicting word.
    • Conflicts involving explicitly chosen route words now provide clear guidance to choose another word.
    • Import checks follow declaration order: a route word released by an earlier type can be used later in the same import, while omitted types retain their words until the import is complete.
    • Refused imports leave stored definitions unchanged.

Walkthrough

Import validation now checks whether a new default content type’s derived route word is reserved or already held by another type on the site or in the import. Refusals identify the type and conflicting word. Apply ordering and route-word error messages and translations are also updated.

Changes: Derived Route Word Import Validation

Layer / File(s) Summary
Route-word error contract
internal/content/error.go, internal/content/types.go, internal/content/typestore/*, internal/content/registry_root_test.go
Structured errors identify derived and stated taken words, and derived reserved words. Reserved-word handling now passes a content.Type value.
Import validation and apply behavior
internal/definitions/validate.go, internal/definitions/apply.go, internal/definitions/*_test.go
Validation tracks route-word ownership across stored types and declarations in file order. Tests cover conflicts, released words, root changes, and group handling when applying an import fails.

API and feature tests check conflict reporting. Error messages and translations distinguish derived from stated route-word conflicts. The guide describes import checks and route-word release order.

Full details: Title check

Explanation

The title "fix(definitions): reject imports with a taken derived route word" names the primary change. The PR makes imports refuse before writes when a new default type's plural-derived route word is already held by another type, either on the site or in the same import file. The title is specific, uses the conventional prefix, and matches the linked issue #511 and the PR objectives. It does not cover the stated-route-word, error-message, translation, or write-order changes, which is expected for a title of this length.

Full details: Linked Issues check

Explanation

Issue #511 requires that an import refuse, before any write, a new default type whose derived plural route word is already held by another type, on the site or in the same file. The reviewed head meets this. validateTypes in internal/definitions/validate.go now calls validateRouteWords. That function seeds a map with stored route-word holders, then walks declarations in file order. For each declaration it checks the word against the current holder, then releases the word the declaration vacates and claims its own word. A holder that derived its word from a new default type is reported as derived_route_word_taken through importFailure, using content.DerivedRouteWordTaken. The error carries the type key, plural name and derived word. Because the check runs in validateTypes, both Compare and Apply refuse before writes. The apply.go change runs the type stage before the leaving stage, so a type refusal no longer happens after confirmed field groups are removed. The PR tests (per the change summary) cover site and plugin conflicts, both same-file declaration orders, a kept root, an earlier release of the word, unchanged registry after refusal, and API codes and details on both endpoints. The test bodies were not read in this assessment. The conclusion relies on the validator and apply diffs and the test summaries.

Full details: Out of Scope Changes check

Explanation

The changes trace to #511 or support it. The validate.go route-word preflight and the importFailure conversion implement the refusal. The apply.go stage reorder prevents field-group removal before a type refusal, which is the failure mode in #511. The content error constructors (DerivedRouteWordTaken, StatedRouteWordTaken, and the DerivedRouteWordReserved signature change) provide the error code and details the issue requires. The stated-route-word check is an extension of the same preflight. It applies the same refuse-before-write rule to an explicitly stated word. It is related work, not an unrelated change. Frontend messages, translation templates, catalogues, fuzzy Spanish and French entries, the import guide, and the feature and server tests support the refusal and its verification. No change was found that is unrelated to #511.

Full details: Docstring Coverage

Explanation

Docstring coverage is 52.00% which is insufficient. The required threshold is 80.00%. Docstring coverage is scoped to functions touched by this diff with cyclomatic complexity of at least 2. Documentation-only edits and deletions within surviving functions are included; unchanged diff context and fully deleted functions are excluded. Analyzed 25 functions across 17 files. (5 skipped: 5 unsupported.)

Resolution

Write docstrings for the functions missing them to satisfy the coverage threshold.

[Medium impact] The PR appears safe to merge; the latest test changes introduce no actionable issue.

Summary

The PR checks route words before imports write, reports clear errors for taken words, and moves type writes before confirmed group removals.

  • Definitions imports reject route words already held before changing the site.

Thanks for this.

I rebased your branch on main, so please reset to it before you push again. I also pushed a few commits on top so we can merge it, you don't need to do anything further.

  • The taken word error now lives in the content package beside its reserved twin, so the test that checks every error code has a message can see it.
  • The empty word check in routeWordConflict is gone, because only the root can have no word and the next line already lets it through.
  • routeOwner is now wordHolder, and the docblocks say what each function returns.
  • The tests now state the type and label they expect, and the database test keeps its cases as rows.
  • A new table checks the file order and who holds each word, with no database.
  • A route word stated in the file now answers stated_route_word_taken with the type and the word, and asks for a different route word. It comes with fuzzy Spanish and French lines.
  • An import now writes the types before the confirmed field groups leave, so a type that cannot be written no longer costs those groups. Two new tests pin this order.
  • A new scenario pins the answer for a derived word another type uses.
  • The guide now says route words are checked in file order, and that a word given up in the file is free only for the types listed after it.

Reject duplicate type keys after trimming them.

validateTypes compares declared keys before trimming, so chapter and chapter both pass. Preview accepts the file. Apply stores chapter, then the second Create fails with ErrTypeTaken after the first write has committed. Compare trimmed keys in validateTypes, and make the stored-type lookups in the same path use the trimmed key.

Assert the Side notes location in the landing test.

🟡 Medium risk · Preflighting route-word claims in import order could reject valid type imports or allow conflicting paths if claim-release handling is wrong.

Imports now check derived route words before writing, rejecting new default types whose plural name derives a word already held by another type on the site or in the same file. Refused imports leave stored definitions unchanged, and errors name the type, word, and suggest a different plural name. No issues found.
