Need updated installation instructions or a .deb package

On many distributions, pip installations are discouraged now, so the installation instructions do not work without --break-system-packages, which should not be a routine advice.

For example, on Debian trixie:

$ pip install gnuplot_kernel
error: externally-managed-environment

    python3-xyz, where xyz is the package you are trying to

    If you wish to install a non-Debian-packaged Python package,

Thanks, although I was hoping a normal, system-wide installation, one for all users on the system, would be possible. Our student users only get 2GB per account, and making private virtual environments for everyone is a waste of their precious space.

The interface is robust, well-tested. There is no reason why a Debian/Ubuntu release could not be made.

I'm afraid I need to reopen this issue. Under Debian 13 (trixie/sid):

python3 -m venv .venv && source .venv/bin/activate
pip install gnuplot_kernel
python -m gnuplot_kernel install --user
du -sh .venv
251M	.venv
.venv/bin/jupyter notebook

and then %load_ext gnuplot_kernel completes without error, but

%%gnuplot
plot sin(x)

UsageError: Cell magic `%%gnuplot` not found.

Any way to fix this? Could you provide updated instructions, please.

Any way to install this system-wide, for all users, and not 250MB in each userspace?

Any hope for a native package, apt install python3-gnuplot_kernel ?
