v4.39.1

  • Update default CodeQL bundle version to 2.27.3. #4256
Changelog

Sourced from github/codeql-action/upload-sarif's changelog.

CodeQL Action Changelog

See the releases page for the relevant changes to the CodeQL CLI and language packs.

[UNRELEASED]

No user facing changes.

4.39.1 - 21 Oct 2026

  • Update default CodeQL bundle version to 2.27.3. #4256

4.39.0 - 15 Oct 2026

  • Breaking change: Bump the minimum required CodeQL bundle version to 2.20.7. #4205
  • The codeql-action/analyze step now validates that a correct argument for the checkout_path input has been provided. The checkout_path input must be set to the path where the repository that is being analyzed is checked out at on the runner, if that path is something other than the workspace root. If the path does not point to a repository checkout or is different from the path that was used by codeql-action/init, then the CodeQL Action now produces a warning. #4148
  • Resolved an issue with third-party caching implementations that prevented caches from being restored correctly. #4206
  • The codeql-action/start-proxy step that is used in Code Scanning Default Setup now finds CodeQL releases using the same logic as codeql-action/init. This primarily benefits customers who are using GitHub instances other than github.com where the codeql-action/start-proxy step may previously have been unable to locate recent releases and ended up using outdated versions of the private registry authentication proxy as a result. #4198

4.38.3 - 08 Oct 2026

  • Upcoming breaking change: CodeQL version 2.21.2 and earlier were discontinued on 24 September 2026 alongside GitHub Enterprise Server 3.17, and will be unsupported by the next minor release of the CodeQL Action. Added a deprecation warning for customers using these versions of CodeQL. #4188
  • Update default CodeQL bundle version to 2.27.2. #4203
  • Fixed a bug where the decision of whether to use a per-language bundle did not account for custom configurations that reference queries outside of compiled CodeQL packs. This issue was caught during internal testing and did not affect any customer repositories. We will resume the roll out of per-language bundles in the coming weeks. #4184

4.38.2 - 24 Sept 2026

  • Update default CodeQL bundle version to 2.27.1. #4160

4.38.1 - 18 Sept 2026

  • The CodeQL Action now has experimental support for CodeQL releases for which per-language bundles are available. Per-language bundles support analysis for a single language and are therefore smaller than the combined bundles that allow analysis for all supported languages. As a result, per-language bundles take up less space on disk and are faster to download. We expect to roll this change out to everyone in the coming weeks. #4146

4.38.0 - 09 Sept 2026

  • On GitHub-hosted runners, the CodeQL Action now deletes unused CodeQL bundles from the toolcache before downloading a different bundle, which frees up disk space for the analysis. We expect to roll this change out to everyone in September. #4124
  • The CodeQL Action now supports CodeQL releases that are compatible with Linux Arm64 and downloads the native linux-arm64 CodeQL bundle when available. #4072
  • Update default CodeQL bundle version to 2.27.0. #4129

4.37.9 - 26 Aug 2026

  • Update default CodeQL bundle version to 2.26.4. #4106

4.37.8 - 21 Aug 2026

No user facing changes.

4.37.7 - 13 Aug 2026

  • Update default CodeQL bundle version to 2.26.3. #4085

Decision needed: @clubanderson should confirm this dependabot pin bump of github/codeql-action/upload-sarif (v4.39.0 → v4.39.1) in .github/workflows/scorecard.yml can merge; it is a CODEOWNERS-restricted workflow path.

Verified pin bump, no defect found — routing only because .github/workflows/ is a CODEOWNERS-restricted trust surface.

  • .github/workflows/scorecard.yml:37: the only change is upload-sarif@6f2ac81… # v4.39.0 → upload-sarif@9b32540… # v4.39.1.
  • Checked against upstream: annotated tag github/codeql-action v4.39.1 dereferences to commit 9b3254085494b55a0f7c4c2b3d2d52cc712ce370, and v4.39.0 to 6f2ac81f5cd81fe351a197ba0b00d91d03cd2aee, so both the new pin and its comment are consistent.
  • Workflow permissions are unchanged: top-level permissions: read-all and the job-scoped security-events: write / id-token: write (scorecard.yml:10, :21-23) are not in the diff.
  • Repo CI (Lint and build, TypeScript & ESLint, Vitest, npm audit) is green on b70a381; the failing checks are only the Netlify deploy-preview set, which per #419 is the exhausted Netlify Free quota and unrelated to this change.

Looks correct to me. I have not approved or merged anything.

Decision needed: @clubanderson should confirm the new upload-sarif pin in .github/workflows/scorecard.yml:37 resolves to github/codeql-action v4.39.1 before this merges.

Routing to a CODEOWNER because this touches a workflow file, not because I found a defect.

What I verified:

  • The diff is one line, .github/workflows/scorecard.yml:37: the github/codeql-action/upload-sarif pin moves from the v4.39.0 SHA to the v4.39.1 SHA with the version comment updated.
  • The permissions block is unchanged — top-level permissions: read-all (line 10) and job-level security-events: write (lines 21–22) are exactly as on main.
  • Build, TypeScript & ESLint, Vitest and npm audit are all green on this head. The four Netlify failures are the quota exhaustion already ruled non-blocking in #419.

What I did not do: independently resolve the new SHA against the upstream tag. /.github/workflows/ is a CODEOWNERS-gated path here, so that confirmation belongs with you.

@hivecommons-hive hivecommons-hive Bot added stage/085-needs-decision A human decision is owed: sentinel alert, hold/needs-decision label, human-only rule or parked issue and removed stage/050-review-pending Review swarm requested; awaiting a verdict for the current head labels Oct 26, 2026

Needs a decision, not a merge:

  • the reviewer swarm returned requires_human @b70a381
  • reviewer question: @clubanderson should confirm the new upload-sarif pin in .github/workflows/scorecard.yml:37 resolves to github/codeql-action v4.39.1 before this merges.
  • the automerge lane will not merge this unattended

Head: verdict requires_human @b70a381, 4/4 checks green, DCO yes, soak 0s of 30m0s.

What to do: approve this head (b70a381) to merge as-is, or leave a changes requested review (or reply /hive decision <what to change>) and the hive will push the fix.

How to release it:

  • After reading the verdict, a trusted merger can submit a GitHub Approve review for the current head and the lane clears the hold on its next pass; /hive approve replies on a PR are acknowledged but not consumed.

Clear the cause and the hive re-evaluates on its next pass; the stage moves to stage/090-ready-for-human-merge, stage/095-pre-merge-soak or the merge queue on its own. Approval does not bypass CI, hold labels or other merge gates.

ℹ️ Sentinel notice — informational; author is trusted (allow-listed bot), merge is not blocked

Hive flagged this PR (author @dependabot[bot], head b70a3811d716) because it matches behaviors that can override security controls, escalate privileges or damage the codebase. This is a heuristic, not an accusation — a maintainer should confirm the change is intended before it merges.

  • sensitive_path — changes 1 sensitive path(s) (Touches a sensitive path (OWNERS, workflows, policies, hive config, security docs, …))
    • .github/workflows/scorecard.yml

Hive did not add the sentinel-alert label because this author is trusted. The finding remains recorded for audit and the dashboard Security tab; set sentinel.trusted_authors_block: true to require the blocking label for trusted authors too.

Note for the merging maintainer: the four red Netlify checks (deploy-preview, Header rules, Redirect rules, Pages changed) are the known Netlify Free-tier quota exhaustion ruled on in #419 (closed), not something this bump introduced. The remaining gate is the requires_human confirmation of the upload-sarif pin above.

Verified: 9b3254085494b55a0f7c4c2b3d2d52cc712ce370 is the commit that tag github/codeql-action@v4.39.1 dereferences to. Netlify reds are the known free-tier quota issue (#419), unrelated.

/hive decision approve — upload-sarif pin confirmed to resolve to codeql-action v4.39.1 (annotated tag 8498dc4 → commit 9b32540). Netlify failures are the pre-existing quota exhaustion from #419, not blocking.

…hot at once (#14421)

Every hive merge path (sweep, queue, relay, forge) ends in
RecordPRMergedAudit, but nothing removed the PR from the dashboard status
or the governor's cached ActionableResult: the row left only when the
pull_request closed webhook came back round through the hub, when the
closed-row sweep ran on the next status publish, or when a full
enumeration replaced the snapshot. hivecommons/docs#469 was merged by the
sweep at 18:25Z and still showed as Sentinel alert - needs human an hour
later while the governor re-evaluated it as merge-eligible seven times.

The attribution audit sink now applies the same closed snapshot a webhook
delivery would for pr_merged and pr_closed records, patching both stores
and remembering the patch for replay.
