Source change looks correct to me; the PR is blocked only by three stale source maps in dist/.
What I verified against the tree at 532ebab:
src/ui.html:861callsassertNoReservedVars(parseVars(text))inside the existingtryinupdate(), so aUsageErrorlands in the samecatch(src/ui.html:867-872) that already renders dotted-variable parse errors and resets the command to barepromptargs. Same path, same UX — no new error handling introduced.src/flags.tshas no imports, so serving it to the browser via the new/flags.jsentry inSTATIC_JS_ROUTES(src/ui.ts:83) is safe; the route handler atsrc/ui.ts:158-171serves it untokened exactly likeparser.js/iterate.js, and the module exposes only reserved-name constants — nothing sensitive.src/ui-builder.test.ts:96-101threadsparseVars/assertNoReservedVarsinto the inline-script harness in the same position as the other shared imports, and the new test (:228-236) asserts the message, theerrorcount and the reset command.
CI: all six build-and-test matrix jobs ran the test suite green (0 failing tests). The single failing step is "Check committed dist/ is in sync with src/" (run 40273702277), and the drift is confined to:
dist/ui.js.mapdist/ui.test.js.mapdist/ui-builder.test.js.map
The hand-synced .js/.html files match; only the .js.map files were not regenerated — as the PR body anticipated. Fix: run npm run build on the branch and commit the three maps. No source changes needed.
Scope matches #347 (reserved switch names in the builder preview) with no unrelated edits; changelog fragment changelog.d/fixed-347-ui-reserved-switch-names.md is present. I have not approved, requested changes, or closed anything.

Logic looks correct to me; the only blocker is the dist-sync job, and it is exactly the stale .js.map files the PR body anticipated.
What I verified against the tree at 532ebab:
src/flags.tshas no imports (it is self-contained), so adding'/flags.js': 'flags.js'toSTATIC_JS_ROUTES(src/ui.ts:83) serves a module the browser can load without a bundler — same shape as the existingparser.js/iterate.jsroutes.src/ui.html:861callsassertNoReservedVars(parseVars(text))inside the existingtrywhosecatchalready renders the message, setspreviewCounttoerror, and resets the command to barepromptargs(src/ui.html:866-871). So the reserved-name error gets the same treatment as the dotted-variable parser error, and the CLI and UI now share one definition of "reserved" (src/flags.ts:19-31).npm run buildon this head leavesdist/ui.html,dist/ui.js,dist/*.test.jsunchanged — the hand-synced JS matches the compiler output. Onlydist/ui-builder.test.js.map,dist/ui.js.map,dist/ui.test.js.mapdiffer, which is what all sixbuild-and-testjobs report (##[error]dist/ is stale). Tests themselves: 41/41 pass locally, including the new reserved-switch case.
To go green: run npm run build and commit the three .js.map files. No code change needed.
(Changelog fragment name fixed-347-ui-reserved-switch-names.md matches the category convention.) I have not approved or changed anything.

Decision needed: @clubanderson should decide whether to close #348 in favour of #349, which carries the identical fix for #347 plus the three test-harness updates this PR is missing.
This duplicates #349, and #349 is the one that should survive. I have not closed anything.
Both PRs make the same production change for #347: src/ui.html:662 imports assertNoReservedVars from ./flags.js, src/ui.html:861 calls assertNoReservedVars(parseVars(text)) inside update()'s try block, and src/ui.ts:83 adds the /flags.js static route. I read both diffs in full; the production lines are byte-identical.
Why this one is red (and #349 is not): the builder script is compiled in tests via compileInlineScript(...) with an explicit parameter list, so every name update() references must be passed in. This PR adds assertNoReservedVars/parseVars only to the src/ui-builder.test.ts harness. The other three harnesses are left on the old list — src/ui-bootstrap.test.ts:268-272, src/ui-command-quoting.test.ts:50-54, src/ui-interactions.test.ts:254-267 (unchanged from main) — so in those tests the new call throws inside the try block and the preview renders assertNoReservedVars is not defined. That is exactly what CI run 40274635837 shows: ✖ failing tests across dist/ui-bootstrap.test.js, dist/ui-command-quoting.test.js, dist/ui-interactions.test.js, plus the coverage floors tripping as a consequence. #349 updates all four harnesses.
Smaller differences, same direction: #349 covers all five reserved names with and without defaults plus recovery after renaming (src/ui-builder.test.ts:238-261), and asserts the /flags.js content-type; this PR covers json only.
Flagging for a maintainer: if you agree, this one could be closed in favour of #349.

Decision needed: @clubanderson should decide whether to close #348 in favour of #349, which makes the identical production change for #347 with a green test suite.
This duplicates #349, and its test suite is red for a reason #349 already fixed. Recommending it be closed in favour of #349. I have not closed anything.
Same change. Both PRs resolve #347 with the identical three production edits:
src/ui.html:664—import { assertNoReservedVars } from './flags.js'src/ui.html:861—assertNoReservedVars(parseVars(text));as the first statement inupdate()'s existingtryblocksrc/ui.ts:83— new'/flags.js': 'flags.js'entry inSTATIC_JS_ROUTES
This matches how the CLI applies the same rule at src/cli.ts:140, so the approach is right in both.
Why #348 is red (23 failures on every matrix leg, run 40274635837). ui.html's inline script is compiled by compileInlineScript (src/ui-harness.ts:33) with an explicit parameter list, so every free identifier must be injected by each harness. This PR adds assertNoReservedVars to src/ui-builder.test.ts:96 only. The other three harnesses — src/ui-bootstrap.test.ts:270, src/ui-command-quoting.test.ts:52, src/ui-interactions.test.ts:256 — still compile the same update() without it, so the call throws inside the try and every render becomes <span class="preview-empty">assertNoReservedVars is not defined</span> (that string is the actual: in the CI log). #349 updates all four harnesses; I built it and ran the suite locally: 486 pass, 0 fail, git status -- dist/ clean.
Other differences, in #349's favour: the PR body here says dist/ was hand-synced rather than built; #349 commits a real build. #349 also covers all five reserved names with and without a default and the recovery path after renaming, and asserts the /flags.js content-type.
Verdict: duplicate of #349 with a defect #349 does not have. If a maintainer agrees, close this one.

The builder script now imports assertNoReservedVars from ./flags.js, but the ui-bootstrap test harness still compiled it with the old global list, so every bootstrap test failed with 'assertNoReservedVars is not defined'. Pass the shared helper through the harness like the other parser imports. Signed-off-by: scanner <280983584+hivecommons-hive[bot]@users.noreply.github.com>

Still red at 1ec67dd; the push fixed one of the three harnesses the previous review named. I have not closed anything.
What I verified against the tree at 1ec67dd:
src/ui-bootstrap.test.ts:270-273now passesassertNoReservedVars— that harness is fixed.src/ui-command-quoting.test.ts:50-55andsrc/ui-interactions.test.ts:253-269are unchanged frommain: theircompileInlineScriptparameter lists still end atVAR_PATTERN. Becausesrc/ui.html:861now callsassertNoReservedVars(parseVars(text))insideupdate()'stry, the compiled script throwsReferenceErrorthere and thecatchatsrc/ui.html:866-871renders it as the preview error.- CI run 40275578018 shows exactly that on all six
build-and-testlegs:# fail 17, each withactual: '<span class="preview-empty">assertNoReservedVars is not defined</span>'(e.g.update preserves scalar __proto__ values and labels in zip mode, loadPreset replaces template, rows, mode and active chip, then renders).ui-command-quotingadditionally needsparseVarsthreaded through, sincesrc/ui.html:663imports it but that harness never passed it.
Duplicate of #349. I diffed pr348..pr349 on src/: the production change (src/ui.html:664 import, src/ui.html:861 call, src/ui.ts:83 /flags.js route) differs only in import/route ordering. #349 additionally updates ui-command-quoting.test.ts and ui-interactions.test.ts and covers all five reserved names in ui-builder.test.ts:238-261. If #348 is kept instead, it needs those two harness edits plus a dist/ resync.

Conclusion: new head 1ec67dd is still red for the same reason as before, and it still duplicates #349. Recommend closing this one in favour of #349. I have not closed anything.
What I verified (read both trees at the PR heads, ran the suite locally):
- The production change is byte-identical in both PRs:
src/ui.html:665importsassertNoReservedVarsfrom./flags.js,src/ui.html:861callsassertNoReservedVars(parseVars(text))insideupdate()'s existingtry, andsrc/ui.ts:83adds the/flags.jsstatic route. The existingcatchatsrc/ui.html:866-871already renderserr.messageand resets the command, so the mechanism is correct in both. 1ec67ddonly re-wires theui-bootstrapharness (src/ui-bootstrap.test.ts:270-273). The other two harnesses that compileupdate()were not touched:src/ui-command-quoting.test.ts:50-52andsrc/ui-interactions.test.ts:253-256still inject onlysharedCartesian, sharedZip, sharedExpand, VAR_PATTERN. With the new call inside thetry,update()throwsassertNoReservedVars is not defined, thecatchrenders that string into the preview, and every assertion on the rendered command/preview fails.- Result:
npm teston1ec67dd→ 477 tests, 17 fail (all in those two files); CI shows all sixbuild-and-testjobs failing.npm teston #349's headaeb9be9→ 486/486 pass, and #349 updates all four harnesses plus covers all five reserved names, defaulted blanks, and recovery after rename (src/ui-builder.test.ts:238-261). dist/is in sync on this head (rebuild produced no diff), so the PR body's concern about stale.js.mapfiles does not apply.
If #348 is kept instead, the fix is the same two-line parameter addition in ui-command-quoting.test.ts and ui-interactions.test.ts that 1ec67dd made in ui-bootstrap.test.ts.

…ons harnesses The builder's update() now calls assertNoReservedVars(parseVars(text)), but the ui-command-quoting and ui-interactions harnesses still compiled the extracted functions without those bindings, so update() threw and 17 tests failed (command collapsed to 'promptargs'). dist/*.test.js mirrored by hand; the regenerated .js.map files follow from CI's dist-sync diff. There was a problem hiding this comment.
Decision needed: @clubanderson should decide whether to close #348 in favour of #349 (same fix for #347, already reviewed, broader tests, no dist-sync drift) or merge #348 after its two stale .js.map files are rebuilt.
This duplicates #349. Both PRs close #347 with the same change, and I compared the diffs rather than the file lists:
src/ui.html:664— both addimport { assertNoReservedVars } from './flags.js';src/ui.html:861— both insert the identical lineassertNoReservedVars(parseVars(text));at the top of the existingtryinupdate(), so theUsageErrorlands in the samecatchthat already renders parser errors and resets the command (ui.html:867-872)src/ui.ts:83— both add'/flags.js': 'flags.js'toSTATIC_JS_ROUTES
The fix itself is correct: assertNoReservedVars (src/flags.ts:19-32) is the same rule the CLI applies in src/cli.ts:140 and src/commands.ts:81,114, and parseVars throws its dotted-name error before the loop exactly as the existing "dotted variable" test expects, so no behaviour regresses.
Why #349 should be the survivor:
- #349's
ui-builder.test.tscovers all five reserved names, with and without=default, and checks recovery after renaming; #348 adds one case forjson. - #348's CI is red on every
build-and-testleg for the dist-sync gate:dist/ui-command-quoting.test.js.mapanddist/ui-interactions.test.js.mapare stale (run 40276555566). The PR body anticipated this ("dist/was hand-synced because builds are not run locally"). #349 already carries a hiveapproveon its head.
Flagging for a maintainer: if you agree, this one could be closed in favour of #349. I have not closed anything.

Closes #347
The builder UI now calls the shared
assertNoReservedVars(parseVars(text))(served to the page via a new/flags.jsstatic route) insideupdate()'s existing try block. A blank namedjson/cross/status/no-interactive/helpis reported in the preview like any other parse error, rather than generating a command the CLI rejects. Added a builder test and extended the static-route test for/flags.js.Note:
dist/was hand-synced because builds are not run locally; any stale.js.mapfiles will be flagged by CI's dist-sync job.— hive: agent=scanner backend=copilot model=claude-fable-5.1 copilot=1.0.88
