WSL Dev

To access the dev servers from other devices on your local network (e.g., testing on a phone), you need to configure WSL2 networking.

1. Run Vite with host flag

cd client && npm run dev -- --host

2. Set up port forwarding (PowerShell as admin)

Get your WSL IP first (run in WSL):

hostname -I | awk '{print $1}'

Then forward ports from Windows to WSL (replace <WSL_IP> with your IP):

netsh interface portproxy add v4tov4 listenport=5173 listenaddress=0.0.0.0 connectport=5173 connectaddress=<WSL_IP>
netsh interface portproxy add v4tov4 listenport=3000 listenaddress=0.0.0.0 connectport=3000 connectaddress=<WSL_IP>

3. Add firewall rules (PowerShell as admin)

netsh advfirewall firewall add rule name="WSL Vite Dev Server" dir=in action=allow protocol=tcp localport=5173
netsh advfirewall firewall add rule name="WSL Express Dev Server" dir=in action=allow protocol=tcp localport=3000

4. Access from other devices

Use your Windows IP (find it with ipconfig in PowerShell):

  • Frontend: http://<WINDOWS_IP>:5173
  • Backend: http://<WINDOWS_IP>:3000

Note: The WSL IP may change after restart. Update port forwarding rules if needed:

netsh interface portproxy show all
netsh interface portproxy delete v4tov4 listenport=5173 listenaddress=0.0.0.0
netsh interface portproxy delete v4tov4 listenport=3000 listenaddress=0.0.0.0
