Overview

This PR fixes #474

Signed Commits

  • Yes, I signed my commits.

Sets a default Content-Type: application/json header in HTTPExporterConfig.Validate() when none is provided, and preserves any user-specified Content-Type. Unit tests have been added to verify both behaviors.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Bug Fixes
    • HTTP exports now default to application/json when no content type is configured, while preserving a supplied content type.
    • Content type matching is case-insensitive, and custom header casing and explicitly empty values are preserved. Exports send a single Content-Type value, avoiding duplicate values when the header is configured with different capitalization.

Walkthrough

HTTP exporter validation now adds Content-Type: application/json when no header key matches Content-Type case-insensitively. Tests cover configured key casing, custom and empty values, and outgoing request headers.

Explanation

The title names the main change: HTTPExporterConfig.Validate now sets a default Content-Type header. The raw summary confirms Validate adds Content-Type: application/json when no matching header exists, and the test file covers that behavior. The title uses the fix: prefix and is 67 characters, which fits the concise style expected.

Full details: Out of Scope Changes check

Explanation

The whole-PR diff against the merge base changes two files. admission/exporter/http_exporter.go adds the "strings" import and a Content-Type default block in Validate(). The block is 11 added lines. admission/exporter/http_exporter_test.go adds tests for this Validate() behavior. The import and the default block directly implement #474. The tests verify that work. No unrelated refactoring, configuration, or documentation changes appear in the reviewed diff or the supplied summary. The test-file diff was not read in full. This assessment relies on the summary and the code diff for that file.

Full details: Linked Issues check

Explanation

Issue #474 requires that Validate() set Content-Type: application/json "if it is empty or not provided". The code at the reviewed head (admission/exporter/http_exporter.go, Validate()) now checks only whether any key matches "Content-Type" under strings.EqualFold. If a match exists, the function adds no default, even when the matched value is "". The loop sets hasContentType = true for the key regardless of its value. Therefore a config with Headers{"Content-Type": ""} keeps the empty value. exportMessage() then calls req.Header.Set("Content-Type", ""), so the outgoing request carries an empty Content-Type. This is the empty-value case that #474 requires to be defaulted. The previous head set the default for this case (config.Headers["Content-Type"] == ""). The current change therefore removes behavior the issue requires. The missing-header case is covered: the default is added when no key matches. The case-insensitive match also resolves the earlier limitation for keys such as "content-type". The PR description says "when none is provided", which omits the issue's "empty" case. The issue requirement governs, so the PR description does not exempt this case.

Resolution

In Validate(), handle the empty-value case as well as the missing-key case. For each key where strings.EqualFold(key, "Content-Type") is true and the value is "", set that key's value to "application/json". If no key matches, set config.Headers["Content-Type"] = "application/json". Keep non-empty user values unchanged. Add or update a unit test in admission/exporter/http_exporter_test.go that asserts an explicitly empty Content-Type becomes application/json after Validate(). Update the PR description so it matches the issue's "empty or not provided" requirement.

Full details: Docstring Coverage

Explanation

Docstring coverage is 0.00% which is insufficient. The required threshold is 80.00%. Docstring coverage is scoped to functions touched by this diff with cyclomatic complexity of at least 2. Documentation-only edits and deletions within surviving functions are included; unchanged diff context and fully deleted functions are excluded. Analyzed 2 functions across 2 files.

Resolution

Write docstrings for the functions missing them to satisfy the coverage threshold.

Handle case-insensitive Content-Type keys before adding the default.

The lookup matches only the exact map key "Content-Type". If a config contains "content-type": "application/custom+json", validation adds a second entry instead of preserving the configured value. exportMessage then passes both keys to http.Header.Set; Go canonicalizes header names, and map iteration order is unspecified, so the request can send either value. Normalize header names or use a case-insensitive lookup before inserting the default, and add a lowercase-key regression test. (raw.githubusercontent.com)

Request changes: the case-insensitive header regression described in the existing thread remains in this revision. A configured content-type: application/custom+json is joined by the new Content-Type: application/json entry; exportMessage sets both as the same HTTP header in unspecified map order, so requests can lose the configured value and be rejected or misinterpreted. Please detect existing names case-insensitively and add an outgoing-request regression test, including an empty value.

The default is needed for JSON requests without a configured header (#474); the current main validation has no default. The added tests cover absent and exact-case custom headers, but not this regression. Reviewed bf3d691 against main at 200cd5e. CI reports successful build, Basic-Test and integration-build checks. I did not run PR code locally because an isolated environment without credentials was unavailable; this assessment is based on the code paths and CI results.

Default an empty Content-Type value.

If Headers contains "Content-Type": "", this check treats the header as present. exportMessage then sends an empty Content-Type value. Issue #474 requires application/json when the header is empty or omitted. Set the default under the existing key when its value is empty, and update the empty-value tests. (github.com)

The original case-insensitive custom-header concern is addressed. One blocker remains: as described in the existing thread, an explicitly empty Content-Type is treated as present and sent empty. This does not meet #474, which requires the JSON default for empty as well as absent values; receivers requiring a media type can still reject those exports. Please default empty values case-insensitively and update the outgoing-request tests while preserving non-empty custom values.

Reviewed 5eaa599 against main at 200cd5e. The build, Basic-Test, integration-build and CodeQL checks report success. This is a static re-review; I did not run repository code locally because a credential-free isolated environment was unavailable.
