LinkedIn Lookback

A simple, private Chrome extension that remembers your LinkedIn activity so you don't have to.

Why this exists

Sales reps, founders, and honestly anyone doing outreach—we all spend a lot of time on LinkedIn. And we all have the same questions rattling around in our heads:

  • Who have I already connected with?
  • Whose profile did I look at last week?
  • Did I already send that person a connection request, or did I just think about it?

These are basic questions. We're not even talking about fancy prospecting signals or intent data. Just the basics. Who do we know? Who don't we know yet?

And here's the thing: you browse LinkedIn constantly. Sometimes with purpose, sometimes just... wandering. You stumble into profiles. Some of those people might be exactly who you're looking for. Some aren't. But you'll forget most of them by tomorrow.

If you have your ICP (Ideal Customer Profile) defined somewhere—even just in your head—there's a lot you could learn just by looking at your own browsing history. But LinkedIn doesn't give you that history. Not really.

So I made this.

What it does

It's a Chrome extension that quietly runs in the background while you use LinkedIn normally. It tracks:

  • Profile views — every profile you visit
  • Connection requests — when you click Connect
  • Messages sent — when you send a message (not what you wrote, just that you sent one)

For each profile, it grabs the useful stuff: name, headline, company, title, school, location, and whether they're a 1st, 2nd, or 3rd degree connection.

You can import your prospect list (a CSV with LinkedIn URLs), and it'll flag when you interact with someone on that list. Then export everything to CSV whenever you want.

That's it. Simple.

About privacy (please read this)

Everything stays on your machine. Your browser. Your data.

There's no server. No account to create. No analytics. No tracking pixels. Nothing leaves your computer. The data lives in your browser's local storage (IndexedDB, if you're curious), and nowhere else.

I'd actually encourage you to verify this yourself. Open the code. Have your security person look at it. Run it through Claude Code or whatever you trust. The whole thing is about 800 lines of JavaScript—not hard to audit.

You should be comfortable with the fact that no one else sees what you're seeing or doing on LinkedIn. That's the point.

Installation

  1. Clone or download this repo
  2. Open Chrome → chrome://extensions
  3. Enable "Developer mode" (top right toggle)
  4. Click "Load unpacked" → select this folder
  5. Done. The icon appears in your toolbar.

Usage

Just browse LinkedIn normally. The extension watches in the background.

Click the extension icon to:

  • See today's activity stats
  • Browse your full activity history
  • Import your prospect list (CSV)
  • Export everything to CSV

Importing prospects

If you have a list of people you're trying to reach, import it. The extension will flag whenever you interact with someone on that list.

Your CSV needs a linkedin_url column. Everything else is optional:

linkedin_url,first_name,last_name,email,company
https://www.linkedin.com/in/johndoe,John,Doe,john@example.com,Acme Inc

Exporting your activity

Click "Export CSV" and you get everything:

timestamp, activity_type, linkedin_url, profile_name, headline,
current_title, company, school, location, connection_degree,
is_known_prospect, prospect_email

Take it into Excel, your CRM, or wherever. It's your data.

What gets captured

Field What it is
profile_name Their full name
headline LinkedIn headline
current_title Job title
company Where they work
school Education
location Where they're based
connection_degree 1st, 2nd, or 3rd

Technical details

  • Chrome Extension (Manifest V3)
  • IndexedDB for local storage
  • Content script observes LinkedIn DOM
  • Service worker handles data persistence
  • No external dependencies
  • No build step—just plain JavaScript

Contributing

Found a bug? LinkedIn changed their DOM and something broke? PRs welcome.

License

MIT. Do whatever you want with it.

Finally

This isn't a product. It's a tool I made because I needed it. Maybe you need it too.

If it helps you keep track of the people you're meeting on LinkedIn, great. If it saves you from that "wait, did I already reach out to them?" moment, even better.

Happy prospecting.
