Guard both result phases by the normalized payload query.
placeholderData can keep the previous keyword payload after keywordQuery changes and while the new request is pending. A keywordQuery === trimmed check would accept that stale payload. The backend also collapses whitespace and truncates queries, so compare both payloads with the current query after applying the same normalization. Otherwise stale rows can remain selectable and replace the current input.

Show an error state when the keyword request fails. The popover otherwise shows "Searching…" with no end.
useSearchSuggestions sets retry: false and does not return the query error state. If the keyword request fails, data stays undefined. This can happen with a 403 from the permission-protected endpoint, a 5xx, or a network error. open stays true while the input is focused. The !box.data branch then shows "Searching…" until the user types again.
To fix this:
- Return

isErrorthroughuseSearchSuggestionsBox. - Render a fallback message in this block.

Keep short matching sentences eligible.
If a short sentence contains the query terms and another sentence has at least 20 characters, this filter discards the match. For example, bestSentence("Vector search. This document describes the project.", "vector") selects the unrelated second sentence. Score all sentences before choosing a preview.

Normalize filters once, before the cache key and both searches.
The semantic phase passes the raw filters to self.search. search stores them in the search filter context. search_tool then maps each key with field_mapping.get(filter_key, filter_key) and does not check the key against an allowlist. The keyword phase uses _filters_to_clauses, which checks keys and drops non-string list items. As a result:
- Unknown keys reach the hybrid query, but the keyword query ignores them. For example,
embedding_modelsfilters on a field namedembedding_models, which does not exist. The hybrid phase can return no hits. - The semantic phase lets a caller filter on any index field.
_filters_to_clausesdocuments this as blocked. - A list with non-string items, such as
[1, "a"], produces atermsclause in the hybrid phase and atermclause in the keyword phase. Filtering keys alone does not fix this. - Unknown keys create separate
SUGGEST_CACHEentries, because the cache key uses the raw dict.
Normalize filters to allowlisted keys with string list values. Both phases then receive the same filters. Non-list values are dropped, and both phases already ignore them. An empty list stays empty, and both phases treat it as "match nothing".

🟡 Minor · Do not substitute a semantic payload for a keyword payload. · search_service.py:1090-1093
src/services/search_service.py:1090-1093
🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick winDo not substitute a semantic payload for a keyword payload.
If five distinct hybrid files rank ahead of a keyword-only file,
_group_suggest_filesfills the five-file limit before it reaches that keyword match. A later keyword request for the same query then receives the cached semantic payload and cannot show the keyword-only file. Keep the two cached results separate, or build the keyword payload independently.🤖 Prompt for AI Agents

What changed in this PR
Adds search-as-you-type suggestions and relevant text previews to OpenRAG’s knowledge search, backed by keyword and semantic queries with caching.
Changes:
- Adds a suggestion endpoint returning query completions, matching files, counts, and previews.
- Integrates debounced suggestions, keyboard navigation, and file selection into search inputs.
- Adds result-table previews and tests for suggestion, preview, and cache behavior.

🔴 High: Recheck authorization before serving cached suggestions
When a user's document access changes, this cache can keep returning filenames and text previews fetched under the old OpenSearch authorization context for up to 45 seconds. The cache key uses only user_id, the query and the filters. But get_user_opensearch_client treats each JWT separately, and OpenSearch enforces document-level access.
Suggestion: Key the cache to the effective authorization context, and invalidate entries when document ACLs change.
🟠 P2: Include the score threshold in the suggestion cache key
score_threshold is passed to _compute_suggestions but is missing from base_key. So for the same query and filters, a second call with a different scoreThreshold gets the first call's semantic payload. A high-threshold request can return results computed at a lower threshold, or the reverse.
Suggestion: Add the threshold to the semantic cache key.

🟠 Medium: Hide results for the previous query while debouncing
After the input changes, keywordQuery keeps the old text until the debounce fires. placeholderData also keeps showing the old results after the new request starts. The semantic result is checked against the displayed query, but keyword.data is not. So the dropdown can show suggestions or files from a different search and let the user select them.
Suggestion: Only show keyword data when its returned query and filters match the current input.

| chunks.extend(c for c in keyword_chunks if c.get("id") not in seen_ids) |
There was a problem hiding this comment.
🟠 P2: Apply the requested threshold to appended keyword hits
When semantic=True and scoreThreshold is positive, self.search applies the threshold to the hybrid hits. The merge then appends every hit from the separate keyword query, which has no threshold. Files the threshold rejected can come back in the suggestion response.
Suggestion: Filter the appended hits by the same threshold, or skip them when a threshold is set.

Add keywordThreshold to the keyword queryKey.
keywordThreshold comes from baseScoreThreshold and is sent in the request. It is missing from the keyword queryKey at Line 107. The semantic key includes its threshold.
baseScoreThreshold can change while keywordQuery and filtersKey stay the same, for example when two saved filters have the same facets but different scoreThreshold. The cache then returns a keyword result computed with the old threshold for up to 30 seconds (SUGGEST_STALE_TIME_MS). Include keywordThreshold in the key, as the semantic query already does.
Based on learnings: "first check whether a dynamic input can vary within the same query cache and change the data being cached. If so, include it in the queryKey".

Match query terms inside unspaced CJK text.
When a Japanese sentence contains 検索 within 全文検索エンジン, this regex treats the uninterrupted sentence as one token. A query for 検索 then scores that sentence as zero. If an earlier sentence also scores zero, bestSentence selects the unrelated earlier sentence for the preview. Add a matching strategy for scripts that do not separate words with spaces, and test an unspaced sentence.

metadata contains searchable files, suggested queries on a search population. each keyword hit waits 250 ms until a pause, before sending an OpenSearch query. uses LRU caching to reduce query calls.
Chunk preview: in an active result set, shows a little preview banner of the relevant search.
