Commit hash absent in version string when core is downloaded from the buildbot #331

Shortly after the latest rebase done by @warmenhoven, I noticed that the commit hash does not show up anymore in the version string, at least when the core is downloaded from the buildbot.

I think this might have started with this PR: #330
