Follow-up to the DPP steel content specification v0.0.2 batch (material-identity/schema#370; release v2026.09.30, #127). A certification review of v0.0.2 found two defects:
No heat element. Melt-and-pour evidence (Regulation (EU) 2026/1384 Art. 4; Implementing Regulation (EU) 2026/1963, which requires the mill test certificate to carry the melt-and-pour country and the heat number) is tied to the heat number, and v0.0.2 has no data element for it. heatNumber is that element.
castLotNumber uses "cast" against steel certification usage. The published entry defines the cast as a sequence of heats, while EN 10168 English usage has "cast number" = the heat (EN 10168:2004 Table 3 B 07, "e.g. cast number, ingot number, …"; Table 4 C 71–C 92, "in addition to the cast number"). sequenceOrLotNumber supersedes it (replaces), keeps its objectType/valueDataType, and states explicitly that it is not the heat. The and/or shape (REVIEW §1) is kept as the owner-approved scope, mirroring the one JRC row (T8 p. 51).
Reference findings (checked 2026-09-30):
EN 10168 has no heat-number field. In EN 10168:2004, C 00 is "Identification of the sample" (Table 4; "only required if it differs from the identification of the product (see B 07)"), not "Batch number" and not the heat. The "C00 = Batch number / heat number" labels in schema/legacy/schemas/EN10168 and the JRC-derived heat→C00 mapping are therefore not supported by the standard text. EN 10168 uses "cast number" without defining it, so heatNumber cites no definitionStandard (a wrong clause is worse than none).
legalBasis omitted. The heat-number requirement is in Implementing Regulation (EU) 2026/1963 (recorded in Origin: countryOfOrigin, meltAndPourCountry, manufacturingDate (DPP steel v0.0.2) #122 as Art. 1(1): "a Mill Test Certificate that includes the country of 'melt and pour' and the heat number"), but the OJ text could not be re-opened for this request (EUR-Lex bot challenge), so the clause is not independently verified. Regulation (EU) 2026/1384 Art. 4(1) mandates the melt-and-pour country, not the heat number, so it is not cited either. A legalBasis can follow in a later successor once 2026/1963 is verified.
German term: Schmelzennummer (Schmelze = heat; Schmelzenanalyse = heat/cast analysis).
Entries
1 heatNumber — SingleValuedDataElement (new)
preferredName (en): Heat number
preferredName (de): Schmelzennummer
definition (en): Identifier assigned by the steel producer to a heat, being the quantity of steel melted in one steelmaking furnace and treated in one ladle, which is cast as a unit and characterised by one heat analysis; in EN 10168 terminology, the cast number.
valueDataType: xsd:string
exampleValue: "8R518V"
Content specification v0.0.2 (informative): the traceability key between the product, its mill test certificate and its melt-and-pour evidence.
definition (en): Identifier of a traceability unit other than the heat to which the product belongs: a casting sequence, being several heats cast consecutively on a continuous caster, or a production or processing lot, being a grouping of products processed together under the same manufacturing conditions, such as a galvanizing lot; it does not identify the heat, which is identified by the heat number.
valueDataType: xsd:string
Content specification v0.0.2 (informative): conditional — where the manufacturer identifies a casting sequence or lot in addition to the heat.
Accepted (Yes #1): the owner approved this scope explicitly on 2026-09-30 — heatNumber (new) and sequenceOrLotNumber superseding castLotNumber (c0872ffd-21b7-4365-a77a-93f90acc36b6). Moved from state:proposed to state:accepted.
