fix(ios): prefer the USB entry when a device is also paired over Wi-Fi - #541
On a real iPhone that is plugged in over USB and also visible over Wi-Fi, every command that needs the agent (device info, screenshot, dump ui, ...) fails with:
failed to start agent on device <udid>: failed to wait for agent: timed out waiting for WebDriverAgent to be ready
DeviceKit itself starts fine. With the test runner output enabled, the runner logs Server is ready (... http://127.0.0.1:12004/rpc ...), and reaching it through iproxy 12999:12004 returns /health 200 and a valid device.info. Only mobilecli's port forward fails: localhost:8100/health gets connection reset by peer.
Root cause
usbmuxd lists such a device twice, once per connection type:
goios.GetDevice(udid) returns whichever entry comes first. Here that is the Network entry, and go-ios forward then logs could not connect to phone ... err="Failed connecting to service, error code:2" phonePort=12004. Forwarding the same port through the USB entry works.
Fix
Add ios.GetDevice, which takes the USB entry when there is one and falls back to the network entry otherwise, and use it in the three places that called goios.GetDevice (port forwarding, getEnhancedDevice, the web inspector dialer). pickDeviceEntry has unit tests.
Testing
go test ./devices/ios/ passes, go vet ./devices/... is clean.
iPhone Duo (iPhone19,4), iOS 27.2 (24B91020), DeviceKit 0.0.35, macOS 27.0, Xcode 27.2 RC, plugged in over USB with Wi-Fi visibility on: before the change device info and screenshot time out; after it both succeed, and mobile-mcp 1.0.14 with MOBILECLI_PATH pointing at this build can launch apps, list elements and take screenshots.
iOS device selection now prefers a USB-connected device when the same device is available over both USB and the network. If no USB connection is available, network-connected devices remain selectable.
Device selection is consistent across iOS features, including port forwarding and web inspection.
RSD connection details are now added to the selected device entry without replacing its existing information. Existing connection setup and error handling remain unchanged.
usbmuxd lists a device that is also reachable over Wi-Fi twice, and
go-ios GetDevice returns whichever entry comes first. When that is the
Network entry, connecting to the on-device agent port fails with usbmuxd
error code 2, so every agent command times out waiting for the agent
even though DeviceKit is up and listening on the device.
Look the device up through a helper that takes the USB entry when there
is one and falls back to the network entry otherwise.

Walkthrough
The change adds shared iOS device lookup that prefers matching USB entries and otherwise selects the first matching non-USB entry. Device lookup consumers use the helper, and RSD handling adds connection details to the selected device entry.

Summary
Device lookup and selection devices/ios/device.go, devices/ios/device_test.go
GetDevice lists devices, propagates listing errors, and selects a matching USB entry when available. Otherwise, it selects the first matching non-USB entry. Tests cover both selection paths and an unknown UDID.
getEnhancedDevice attaches the RSD address and provider to the selected entry. PortForwarder.Forward and dialDeviceWebInspector use the shared device lookup.

deviceWithRsdProvider looked the UDID up again with
goios.GetDeviceWithAddress, which returns the first matching entry and
can hand back the Wi-Fi entry that GetDevice just skipped. Attach the
address and RSD provider to the entry the caller already picked instead.

Yes, CodeRabbit is right, it's a bug. getEnhancedDevice picks the USB entry, but deviceWithRsdProvider then called goios.GetDeviceWithAddress, which lists devices again and returns the first entry with that UDID. That can be the Wi-Fi entry, which undoes the fix for everything that goes through the RSD path. Pushed 1fb7f36: it now sets Address and Rsd on the entry the caller already picked, and drops the now-unused udid parameter.
go test ./devices/... and go vet ./devices/... pass. I couldn't re-run the on-device check today: the XCTest runner session times out on this phone with both the previous commit and this one (initiateSessionWithIdentifierAndCaps ... Timed out), so that looks unrelated to this change. I'll re-test once the phone is back in a good state and report here.
Follow-up after rebooting the phone (iPhone Duo, iOS 27.2):
apps launch / apps terminate, which go through getEnhancedDevice -> deviceWithRsdProvider, work on 1fb7f36 (and on the previous commit).
The DeviceKit runner launch still times out, with both commits: the runner never shows up in the device's process list, and earlier runs logged initiateSessionWithIdentifierAndCaps ... Timed out. This worked on the same phone and iOS build on Oct 27, so I think it's a separate issue on my side, not this PR.
After the reboot the phone is USB-only (no Wi-Fi entry in usbmuxd), so this run doesn't cover the USB + Wi-Fi case. That case was verified on Oct 27 with the first commit.
Found it, and it was on my side. After the reboot, iOS asks for Face ID / passcode on the phone before testmanagerd will enable Automation Mode. Nobody approved the prompt, so the runner sat at Running tests... until XCTest gave up with "Timed out while enabling automation mode", and the stuck prompt made the next few attempts fail with the initiateSession timeout.
After approving it on the phone, on 1fb7f36: device info and screenshot work, both with mobilecli launching the runner itself and when reusing a running one. apps launch / apps terminate work too. The phone is still USB-only right now, so the USB + Wi-Fi case is covered only by the Oct 27 run.
