Laptop quickstart: a local example that runs without GitHub or a cluster #563

Need

Trying Outerloop today needs a GitHub repository with a contract, a GitHub identity (App or token) and Slurm or a GPU before anything happens. The local forge (0.5.0) and local compute remove the first two: a run can live in a bare repository under the state root on one laptop.

Build

  • A small CPU example shipped with the package (a toy optimization benchmark with headroom, solver and eval split, contract and roadmap).
  • One documented path, about two commands: seed a local forge from the example and start a local loop that makes its first climb within minutes.
  • README: lead with this path and a short terminal recording of a run, with the GitHub and Slurm setup after it.

Constraints

Uses the model key the user already has. No GitHub account, no cluster, no container.

Done as a public example repository rather than a package-shipped example: outerloop-science/quickstart leads with the three-command local path (local forge, local compute, no GitHub account or cluster), and the kernel README and getting-started guide point to it (#568). Tested end to end on 0.5.0 from PyPI: first PR within about 25 minutes. The terminal recording is left for the 0.6 announcement.
