Group notices can hide available participant names behind an early fallback, and text-only membership notices disappear on reload. Preserve actor and target identities with their explicit PN/LID aliases, resolve local contact names independently, then use the event label or a formatted PN. Unresolved LIDs retain the existing "Unknown contact" fallback.

Identified membership events persist their original facts and refresh labels during history hydration. Their facts and preview updates use the system row's stable database ID. System notices contribute neither unread receipts nor shared read boundaries. GUI previews and CLI DTOs use the same formatter, with IDs separate from labels. No profile or metadata requests are added.

Validation: formatting and workspace Clippy passed; 307 native session tests, 331 daemon tests, 32 browser/WASM session tests and all three membership persistence tests passed. Regressions cover sender-controlled ID collisions, read boundaries after newer notices, and masked LID labels with explicit PN aliases. An earlier full core/store run passed 665 tests including doctests. Fixtures are synthetic. Pinned protocol evidence and persistence limits are in docs/group-membership.md. Findings are code-confirmed; the supplied screenshot could not be downloaded and was not inspected.

Walkthrough

The change adds structured group-membership notices, persists identified notifications, resolves participant labels from local identity and contact data, and displays event summaries in session history, GUI previews, system messages, and daemon DTOs. Membership rows are excluded from unread-count and read-state calculations.

Changes: Group Membership Notifications

Defines membership actions and participant data, maps supported updates to summaries, formats valid phone JIDs, and resolves participant labels from local identity and contact data. Adds the GroupMembership system notice.
Membership message persistence and read-state handling
crates/chat-store/migrations/*, crates/chat-store/src/schema.rs, crates/chat-store/src/types.rs, crates/chat-store/src/queries.rs, crates/chat-store/src/store/*, crates/chat-store/tests/group_membership.rs
Adds the membership column and message kind. Identified updates are inserted as read message rows. Membership rows are excluded from unread and read-state calculations.
Session event handling and history hydration
crates/session/src/whatsapp/mod.rs, crates/session/src/whatsapp/convert.rs, crates/session/src/whatsapp/history.rs, crates/session/src/whatsapp/browser_tests.rs, crates/session/src/whatsapp/tests.rs
Routes identified notifications through storage and emits anonymous notices as transient system notices. Hydration resolves stored membership events and uses their summaries. Tests cover persistence, reload, and label resolution.

A chat preview can become blank after a deletion, but the issue is localized and does not block reading the membership notice. The change is mergeable with owner awareness and a preview fix.
