pyproject.toml declares license "Proprietary" but LICENSE file is MIT #325

Closed

Description

@bo-lora

The repo's LICENSE file is MIT (added June 2026) and the README carries an MIT badge, but pyproject.toml still declares:

license = { text = "Proprietary" }

That line dates from November 2025, before the LICENSE file was added, so it looks like a leftover. It matters because package metadata is what tools read: pip show soa_builder, license scanners, and SBOM generators will all report the package as proprietary, which can block adoption in organizations that run license checks on dependencies.

Suggested fix: change the line to license = { text = "MIT" } (or license = "MIT" with a recent setuptools, per PEP 639), and optionally add the License :: OSI Approved :: MIT License classifier.

This looks like a line missed in the MIT swap (#233 / #247). It may also be worth folding into the license copyright update planned for the cdisc.org transfer (#243), so the package metadata and the LICENSE file move together.
